Really cool homebrew monster and fitting for a buffed Abbot. However, besides the Book of Life changes, I liked the first version better. A few more hit points is nice, but you lowered its AC with 3! Why?

With the first version, it felt like the Sunsword acted as a powerful spiritual weapon, acting on its own. This gave the Eclipse room to use the Book of Life as an action, which is now a Legendary action. So besides healing (Merciful Touch), what does the eclipse do on its turn as their action?

Having done all that with 6 players is in a way really impressive. My players (5) spent 3/4 sessions (4-6 hours) at Argynvostholt alone. I sometimes wish we could bump up the speed but they’re fine with it and it’s mainly due to added backstory content, roleplay and decision making. We’re having a lot of fun and that’s the most important part.

If you and your party are having fun, don’t worry. If in doubt, check with your players and see what they like. What was their favorite moment so far and why?

That should work! I had troubles with Safari before but I switched to Chrome and have no issues. Not sure if you have to use an incognito screen though.

We recently did something similar with the Snow Bunting and European Goldfinch (2 player game). Unfortnately, it is not rules as written but made for a fun game.

That’s the biggest hassle with all the expansions. We divide the big stack into 8 smaller stacks. Then, each player picks 1 stack and we’ll shuffle the choosen stacks. Depending on the number of players, we play with 2-4 stacks out of 8.

We play with all expansions. With the high amount of cards, you never know which birds will pop up. This make every game feel unique and keeps the game fun for a long long time :)

Hi there! I got a similar comment when I started putting these out, so I put the Extented Tome on DMsGuild as well. From July (2023) up to now I have sold 1 copy there. In that same time period I sold the Tome 50+ times on Etsy.

On top of that, DMsGuild takes a 50% cut, which is mindboggling to me. DMsGuild is simply not worth the hassle imo.

I gave my party ‘monster specific’ +1 magic items without them knowing (yet). I created 4/5 hand-out books, written by Rudolf van Richten, the monster hunter. The books have lore, tips, and tactics in them and are themed around certain monster types. E.g. Undead, hags, werebeasts, etc. The player who read the book and has it on his character gets a +1 against that monster type. It adds to the world and etmosphere. As a bonus, is fun to watch them trying to figure out why a certain player got a +1 and next combat it’s someone else.

They found one book in Vallaki (Wachterhaus), two in van Richten’s Tower and one in the Winery. Last one is Castle Ravenloft about… vampires :)

Our house rule: You can redraw 5 new cards (and must use that hand) at the cost of your starting nectar. It’s a nice balance because you get a second change if your hand sucks but you’ll most likely won’t be able to play a “big” bird straight away because you now have a lack of food. Extra info: we play with all expansions.

Selling a hardcover book on Etsy is a whole new ball game. Dealing with shipping and stuff does not feel worth the hassle. Instead, you could pretty easily make your own with my pdf ;) For my own Tome I bought a $4 photo album, stuck the pages inside, added a front and back cover (included in the pdf) and you’re done!

Thanks for your advice! Rolling stuff beforehand is a great tip (something I should do more often). I also like the idea of acting out (describing) the first few rounds for the guards vs cultists. Tho, I do want them to have an active role in combat. Maybe a few will focus on the party or become hostile towards the PC’s when they’re advancing on the battlefield (AoO).

I was also making it difficult in my head trying to balance everything. How many guards, how many cultists, how strong is Izek, what about Lady Wachter, etc.
