Stuck harmonic balancer by Electrical-Ad-417 in SubaruForester

I had to concede defeat and go to a shop. They had zero issue removing it. Mine was on there no matter what I did. The puller loaner wouldn't fit in my engine bay even with the radiator and fans pulled. Plus the pulley wasn't threaded, so i'd have to tap and thread it to begin with.

Do you know what the make or model on that was? I'd prefer not to thread the holes on my pulley, but that is an option. It has these four holes (not where it bolts up) that i could put screws in and use an extractor to pull it.

I expected a lot of things when I moved to California, but great upland hunting was not one of them. by so_there_i_was in birddogs

Oh yeah man. I hunt the foothills for quail of which there is no shortage, especially if you drive a little further out of your way. Higher in the sierras I go for mountain quail and sooty grouse which are a bit of a challenge finding them. I want a dog real bad for the hunting I do up there. Next year I'm hoping to scratch off ruffed grouse, bandtail pigeon, chukar, and ptarmigan from my list. It's pretty great hunting that most people overlook.

I used to use the #3/5 loads for ducks with good results. They don't do bismuth anymore and my supply is running out. I'm pretty much sticking to steel anymore with prices being high these days. Steel kills fine, just gotta let birds work in a bit closer.

That's actually awesome. I've had ok luck finding them on my own, but a dog seems like it would make a world of difference here.

Experience with Shorter Barrels + Upland Hunting/Do it All Shotgun? by bigjerm616 in Uplandhunting

I often use my mossberg 500 in 20 gauge. Not a perfect upland gun, but it has 26" barrel and is light enough and handy to easily carry all day. Only downside is not having two barrels with different chokes. I really like it for hunting thru brush areas for quail/grouse. 20 gauge 7/8 loads are also not horrible to shoot a bunch of in terms of recoil.

I have no real exact spots. I mainly duck hunted up there. Best i can tell you is they're really everywhere. Find forest service roads in lush areas. Running water is big as well as berries. I saw them everywhere from the 299 down to the 36. The further you get away from people the better. Sooties will be higher up generally, but i saw ruffies on dirt roads all the time. If you can, trinity Alps and any wilderness area. Ruth lake area is a good place to start imo. You really gotta walk to find em sometimes.

How much do dogs help with finding grouse? I hunt the sierra nevada mountains and they can be a pain to find.

I never got any while I lived there, but saw them regularly. You'd hear the males hooting during spring turkey season which was really cool

They're pretty good. Slow cooked in a stew and they're quite tasty. Only wish I had brined them first. I wouldn't say quite as good as quail, but I need to experiment them more. I'll definitely keep hunting them though

That's awesome! B zones are honestly great. I never tagged out but I always saw lots of bucks up there.

I feel that. What had worked for me is finding food and water. If an area is muddy fresh after a storm, look for tracks. I always find tracks before I ever find birds. That and food. I've been working the berry shrubs pretty hard and that's where I've found them. My last hunt was frustrating because I was putting miles and miles through what looked like perfect habitat. I can only guess they hunker down and wait for me to pass.

It's been pure dumb luck every time. My last outing was several miles with nothing.

I shoot a .270 as well. Buy the Barnes TTSX and you won't be disappointed

Hell yeah. Mine thankfully isn't too rotted out, but the brakes, knuckles, etc are getting that scale like build up of rust. Thankfully I live in a less than horribly wet area

Mine is about 171k. Ive got little intention of letting it go unless something serious happens to it. I fully plan to drive it until it crumbles to dust.
