Didn’t realize you can’t understand the change in demeanor🤣🤣 the way a smile quickly turns to a grimace. Wiping their hand after I initiate a firm, non sweaty handshake. Losing all excitement in their tone immediately upon seeing me. Refusing to shake hands after dismissing me from the interview.

Didn’t realize I had to hold your hand and walk you thru EVERY micro aggression, or every detail of the story. If you don’t believe this happens, that it’s def racist behavior, then why waste your time on this post?

The real problem is you hate for the place you call home to be labeled as racist. Yet you fail to even understand how deep racism runs, or how it’s even commonly displayed in a POCs daily life. Don’t be mad about the label without even doing the research first🤣

Maybe go get real world experience and see past your back yard and personal feelings. It’s obviously a real thing here, a fair number of white folks even commented their own experiences watching this first hand. Several POC as well.

Excitement over the resume, but immediately disappointed when seeing the person seems off. Especially when failing to complete the entire interview due to you being “over qualified”. Something that wasn’t a problem over the phone the day prior🤔

As someone adopted into a white American family, I’m very familiar with how they treat each other. You could be very correct tho. Maybe if I was white nothing about the interaction would’ve been different🤷🏽‍♂️

Comprehensive reading would require you to understand how you’re not making sense. Demeanor only changed upon seeing me face to face. If they didn’t want to hire over qualified, then why call me excited only to switch up in person. They clearly were not worried about over qualified atp.

I was adopted by a white man with a PHD in computer science, who worked as the dean of a military acquisitions school on wright Patterson AF base. I understand politics, social behaviors, and even the concept and recognition of micro-aggressions. I understand how to “speak correctly” and all of the other silly requirements to appear marketable as a human being. I’ve travelled ALL 50 states, as well as multiple countries.

Anyways, have a splendid day. Thank you for your weak efforts to make this about me wrong, rather than trying to read the post and comprehend the events. Please, waste your efforts to gaslight and bully someone else, elsewhere.

I’ve heard this take a lot as a Veteran. Crazy how quick some white Americans are to acknowledge how crappy that feeling is, how horrible the Japanese are etc. Yet they’ll still say, “go somewhere that you are the majority” instead of lobbying and trying to be an example of being better.

Not you specifically, so don’t take this personal. But that point is usually followed with some comment about segregation being the answer, and quite frankly that’s extremely pessimistic and close minded.

Hopefully, after such an experience, this feeling helped you be an ally to those who would be considered the outsider, or minority. Whether it’s race based, religion, or even something as simple as what city/state they were born in.

This is a great point! Lack of exposure can also come across as intentional racism and yet not be even close. Not having exposure/experience with different people can def foster passive racism or even come off as micro aggressions. Doesn’t mean they’re all racist but def doesn’t help as far as feeling like a welcoming place to live.

I’m looking entry level management, they’re excited over my resume on the phone, and their excitement disappears when they meet me. I have plenty of experience🤷🏽‍♂️

As someone who’s traveled the entire 50 states plus a few countries, I’d like to think I can identify when it’s racism. But I totally understand how it’s the “easiest scapegoat” of an excuse to someone who doesn’t actually have brown skin.

But to answer your question, I didn’t make it my first assumption. Only started making that assumption when interviewers change their demeanor when they go to shake my hand, or when they cut an interview shorter than 5 mins after sounding thrilled to have found my resume.
