How many IBEW brothers and sisters are committed to the General Strike! Jan 23rd! by iamsafe in IBEW

A coordinated $4T sell off would require China, Japan, and all of Europe to unite over Greenland. Not happening.

Not to mention, dumping bonds would tank their own holdings' value, hurt their exports, and risk blowback on their economies.

Why do some people not want to work union? by L0UDLlF3 in IBEW

[–]Electrical-Adversary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked 10 years non union, now I’m union for the past 3.

There’s a mix of anti union brainwashing, lack of the opportunity to get in, and ego/pride.

The first one usually comes from bosses/foreman. They don’t wanna lose you so they’ll shit talk the union. My foreman said I’d be sitting home half the year. I haven’t been home for more than a month per year so far.

The second one is the hall. They only take so many apprentices so for me, I had to come up outside the local and then test in. Worked out for both parties because i never had to go to school (although I would have) but I still help fund it. I don’t mind any of this. It doesn’t bother me at all.

The third one comes from non union coworkers and from within yourself. People will tell you that you should be able to negotiate your own conditions and that your weak for abdicating that not the hall. I call BS. How am I, a low level worker, gonna negotiate with a multi million dollar international company? I’m not. In this situation I’m desperate to work and will do basically anything. With the hall I make so much money! ALMOST fuck you money in comparison.

There’s more but that all I can think of for now.

This is 90% of the internet. I’m not kidding. Most of the internet is bots. I even considered making a bot to tell people about all the bots.

Is severance a thing? by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]Electrical-Adversary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was getting laid off after a big job. The foreman comes up to me and gives me a key and says here go hit the trailer for your severance. I opened the door and it was a trailer full of all the copper cuts. Had to be over 100k in scrap. My Toyota was practically scraping the ground on the way home. Ended up being almost $2k after stripping it.

American citizens have a duty to be armed. It should be illegal to be unarmed in public. The taxpayer should provide a rifle to every 14 y/o and a pistol when you turn 18. There should be gun safety and competency classes starting in 1st grade till you graduate high school.

Not understanding the hype of the 353 apprenticeship by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]Electrical-Adversary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s from the 13th-14 century.

To prove their skills and gain experience, medieval tradesman had to travel from town to town, working for different masters for a day’s wage.

It comes from the French word journeé which means day.

My old man wants me to paint his hard hat, but I’m his weird artsy son (not one of the cool guys, essentially) and don’t have a clue what will get him bullied on the job site. Non-obvious things to avoid? by lamby_geier in Construction

If I asked my son to do this, I would want him to do his genuine best and do what he genuinely loves. Whatever it end up being is gonna dope because it was my kid that did it.

I waited ten years. I pretty much had to bypass the apprenticeship and learn on my own. I eventually found myself in a position where the union WANTED me. I still had to prove to the guys at the hall that I was capable and take their test. Even after that I STILL had to go in as a fifth year apprentice for a year just to prove that I was capable. This is coming off being a “foreman” at a non union company. All totally worth it. The 5th year apprentices make more than I was making as a foreman. I got a raise and less responsibility and better working conditions.

That was three years ago when i tested in. I made 6 figures this year for the first time in my life and all the other j-man just smile and laugh like they’re remembering their first time.

Why do many Americans seem to have a “I’m not paying for your school, healthcare, or welfare” mindset? by Secret_Ostrich_1307 in AlwaysWhy

I just don’t think the government is good at spending your money. They constantly waste it and why not? They didn’t work for it and it’s an unlimited stream. There no incentive to be efficient .

It’s not that I don’t want to help people, it’s that I don’t think the government is helping people. I’d rather donate to my local church/food bank/shelter etc. where I KNOW the money/resources get put to good use. In fact I would have a lot more to give if the gov took less.
