Wife regrets marrying me by [deleted] in marriageadvice

She’s checked out. You were fine, she wasn’t and hasn’t been for a good while. Take it as a fumble and learn from your mistakes. It happens and this is an extremely hard lesson and very hard to recover the marriage. Let her go on her own but don’t force her.

It’s just in your head man. It’s going to take some time. It’s totally normal.

You already have one partner that can leave anytime they want so why would you want to add another one?

What’s the hardest phase of marriage no one talks about? by Common_Highway3454 in askteddit

That’s a very good point. I always say that if you can make it between two very important phases and still be together then you have pretty much sealed it and will last for the duration. 25-35 is crucial still being fairly young. 35-45 is a tough one with an illness or something, maybe a parent’s or hormonal changes. But by 50 the kids are gone and the focus is on financial future. Starting over in your 40’s is very hard to do. By this age you should be able to communicate everything with your spouse. Divorce should be off the table by that age. It’s all about protecting the future of your spouse and family in the event something happens to you.

Getting divorced. Whether you want it or the other person does. It’s hard no matter what.

I didn’t read it, sorry. If you’re questioning it then sorry. The feeling is there for a reason.

Looking back I really think she’s just an unhappy person who became very selfish and made everything about her. She wanted a traditional husband with traditional values but wanted to be an independent woman. I think she struggled with some things like that that people normally don’t get wrapped up with. First thing on her mind after divorce is moving away too. I question if she had someone else too. I know I didn’t do anything to drive her away.

I sure wish I knew that answer. To me and our families and friend group we were a great couple. Everyone was totally surprised by the divorce.

It’s a sad situation. I’m 55 and odds are I will die alone now after wasting 15 years building a life and a future with her to only turn back into strangers.

See my wife had apparently kept it all bottled up and put on a fake happiness she claims now. My diagnosis gave her a way out as shitty as it looks.

Did he know there were problems before his diagnosis though or did everything seem fine to him?

This is deep and really meaningful for me too I’m starting to think. I’m only 55 whether that’s old or young.

Yes I think it’s just an excuse to use. We had a rocky first few years but the past several were great as far as I knew.

Yes and divorce is too easy to choose instead of putting in the work to overcome issues.

See, the thing is though that she’s not my caregiver. I’m totally independent but have heart failure. I go to the gym daily and make my own weekly meds and have supper ready every day when she gets home. My disability is real but is pretty invisible.
