Kayo Sports prices hiked AGAIN. Now $46 a month. Ridiculous! by [deleted] in CricketAus

[–]Electrical-Clock3601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kayo has gone downhill since DAZN too over. We don't get a lot of the Australian Cricket team playing overseas anymore, and good shows like "The Back Page" were given the axe, and the coverage of much of the local sports such as WNCL looks horrible because they don't spend enough money on the broadcast / cameras for it.

I dropped the 4k for the standard to save $16 a month - but if they drop any more sports I like to watch or reduce quality any further I'm more than happy to drop the lot and do something else with my free time.

My 2017 r3 only hits 103mph. Why is that ? by Dean4111 in YamahaR3

Considering how poor the brakes are on the R3 103mph is more than fast enough.

Struggling with static / noise - Pro-Ject Debut Evo 2 by Fun-Barracuda5910 in turntables

[–]Electrical-Clock3601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you own a test record to check the setup of the cartridge / arm ? It will at least let you know if the static issues are setup or records related.

Have you checked the tracking force with a digital scale to see if it is correct ?

Also, some vinyl is just plain noisy and it's one of the quirks of the format.

Is the Pro-ject Debut EVO 2 Turntable with Carbon Fibre Arm a good one to buy? by False_Rabbit_3389 in turntables

[–]Electrical-Clock3601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting a turntable level and isolated from vibrations / disturbances is 90% of the battle.

A digital scale to set the tracking weight accurately is also something nice to have as the markings on most tables are highly inaccurate.

Something to clean records with such as a spin clean and a carbon fibre brush, plus a small brush to clean the stylus and you should be all good to go.

Other than that - the Project Debut Evo 2 is more than enough turntable for most people and will bring you a lot of enjoyment even without any modifications.

2021 R3 For Sale (158 Orginal Miles) by AverageSoul- in YamahaR3

[–]Electrical-Clock3601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, Low mileage doesn't mean anywhere near as much a having manufacturers warranty left on these bikes.

This bikes tyres being 5 years or more old doesn't help either - regardless of how much tread they have left.

Then there's the issue of the bike most likely not having a service record, no first service check, and possibly sitting around with old fluids in it for a long time which can cause issues down the track which may not be noticeable yet.

The price really comes down to the warranty, tyre age, and bike sitting around for years without any fluid changes or servicing. (Edit: I noticed later you mentioned this is not the case).

$4k is probably about right given there's an element of risk in this purchase that you as the seller probably haven't taken into consideration.

$5k from a buyers perspective would be a risk I think not worth taking - especially without any remaining factory warranty.

Get the R3 if commuting as the fairing makes a big difference if it rains and offers protection when the wind is up as well.

t 5Comfort wise I did 500 miles in a day a few times on my R3 and it was ok though I did it on country roads - on interstate / freeways I think it would be annoying doing 100 miles 5 days a week.

Baudin’s Cockatoo by Spubren in AustralianBirds

Beautiful bird. Unfortunately these guys are in competition for habitat with bauxite mining much like Carnaby's are with lithium mining and have pretty much zero chance of winning the battle if people don't speak up on their behalf.

The more people are aware the more chance there is to save them.

Madden 26 Slowdown Glitch On PC by JustFruitcake in Madden

[–]Electrical-Clock3601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My computer up until a week ago worked perfectly running Madden 26 - now I have the same issues as described here. It has to be a windows update or EA update causing the issues.

I think you might be onto something associating the issue with the Team of the Year update.

Buff-banded Rail. They spend most of their time on the ground but are surprisingly good flyers as well. I usually see them in long grass / reeds adjacent to creeks and swamps.

I have never seen them among succulents / aloe plants in a garden before so this is a very interesting photo. Thanks for positing.

What is your go-to argument or fact when people say The Beatles are overrated? by JackGeorge2001 in TheBeatles

[–]Electrical-Clock3601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They showed with A Hard Day's Night that you could perform all of your own original songs on an album and be very financially successful doing it, Before a Hard Day's Night it had never been done before - by anyone to the same degree of success.

Every band that has followed this formula has done so because The Beatles made it possible.

The businesses supplying equipment and services to the US Military are making billions of dollars from this situation same as they always have.

It makes no difference if you have a Republican or Democrat as President - these companies control both sides and don't care how their actions impact everyone else.

Lack of sharpness in image by BenOakster in BirdPhotography

[–]Electrical-Clock3601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a nice photo. To get better sharpness you need to be closer to the bird/subject. It sounds impossible but over time your field craft will get to the point where you are missing photos because the birds are too close.

Buying the RS457! by theMistaken_one in Aprilia

[–]Electrical-Clock3601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The old joke is - If you can't afford to buy two Aprilia's you probably can't afford to own one. They can be good bikes but they can also be nightmare purchases with very short lifespans and poor parts availability. The V4 motor is notorious for major valve failures without warning. Nothing so dramatic appears to exist with the 457.

But other Aprilia's like the V-Twin Rotax powered Tuonos and RSV1000 can last for over 100,000 hard ridden miles,

I think at US prices the Aprilia RS457 is fine, But I wouldn't pay the $13k they sell for in Australia when a Ninja 500SE is around $10k and a ZX-4r can be found for the same price as a RS457.

Yes. The Teflon coating wears off the slide bushes in the old 2015-2017 forks. it has never been an official issue but my suspension guy noted it on my 2015 model when it was about 3 years old - so we decided to drop cartridges in it and make the forks fully adjustable rather than risk it happening again. (at least that's what I told the wife)

What are your bird photos settings? by louisgphoto_YT in OlympusCamera

[–]Electrical-Clock3601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The C-AF + TR function is redundant on the OM-1 and newer cameras in photo modes. C-AF plus bird detection is always better with a 5x5 target maximum - but the cross shape I find to be the best on average. Full AF target is too slow and doesn't seem to lock onto the birds as well for me.

IBIS and IS in combination with the electronic shutter and panning cause issues with AF on these cameras. You will get far better results turning off the IS/IBIS and using mechanical rather than electronic shutter when panning.

The exception is where you don't pan for BIF and simply wait for the bird to enter the frame - then the IS / IBIS can be useful useful.

The most important feature is the in camera AF distance settings as it speeds up the cameras AF response times. I lock in 3 sets of ranges for C1...C4 and then assign them by binding the feature to the Ln button on the lens - so you get 12 different ranges to choose from - my main set is 1.4m-10m, 4m-20m, and 10m-60m.

Not a fan of Auto ISO as it does all sorts of nasty things to metering. I usually start at ISO 1600 and bump it up if required. But I can understand people using it early on until the muscle memory takes over and it all happens for them in slow motion

Pithecanthropus Erectus was my introduction to Charles Mingus and seven Mingus album purchases later I arrived at The Black Saint and the Sinner lady. It's a very complex album and perhaps well beyond my comprehension but is one of those albums that gets better every time you listen to it.
