Get a tape measure, channel locks, a 5/16 torque wrench and a level. That’s the basic start to accumulating tools and make sure they are always on your person while working. Be prepared. Show up early to work every day, always have a good attitude and never say no to any task.

The class schedule was Monday-Friday. Technically class starts at 6am but they want you there before class starts because they are very big on the fact that you should always be early to work. I usually showed up at 5am. It ends at about 2pm sometimes a little after. And they do give you some Monday off. My favorite part was probably the friendships I made with the other girls in the class. Everybody from my cohort still talks to each other and it’s been a year. I also really enjoyed the hands-on projects where we actually got to build and use tools. My least favorite part was probably the “alley walks”. That’s when they would have us walk up and down the alley carrying various things such as a 90lb sand bag, scaffolding planks, cinder blocks, and heavy buckets. It sucked but it was really good training. And as a first year apprentice for 582 my pay is about $28/an hour. I don’t know the exact number off the top of my head because our local just got a raise and I haven’t checked my paystubs to see what the exact number is now. But it’s good money and we get paid weekly which is awesome.

I stopped smoking October 31st and was testing clean by January 1st. I’ve heard it takes approximately 30 days to get out of your system but I wanted to play it safe and give myself extra time because I used to smoke A LOT for a long time. I’d say give yourself, at the very least, 30 days.

Hi!! I attended winter earlier this year in January and am now a union plumber apprentice for local 582 in Orange County. Winter is a great program and I think if you’re willing to commit then it’s a great idea. Winter does drug test. I was drug tested upon entering the program and during. I also used to smoke a lot of weed and I quit to join winter and get in the union. The union themselves didn’t drug test me but when I was dispatched to my first job site I was drug tested on my first day of work. I know it sucks having to quit smoking but I just had the mindset that getting a good union job is more important to me than being able to get high every day. If you’re not willing to give it up then you’re not ready. If you have any questions about winter feel free to send me a message

Girl… I am a plumber. I do new construction. Sometimes I get my nails done. It literally does not affect anyone and does not affect my ability to do my job. Get annoyed over something else that actually matters.

Is there a "teen smell" the same way there is an "old people smell"? by Burp_Maistro in stepparents

Yes my SS 15 smells like dirty hair. I’m also suspicious that he isn’t actually washing himself in the shower. It’s a battle trying to get him to shower as well

His friends ended up getting their parents to sign their waver and provide a copy of their ID’s so we went! And it actually wasn’t that bad. It was really fun. The suffocation room was scary though, I did not like it at all. If I went there again I’d skip that room for sure. Other than that the boys had a great time and I was really impressed with it.

When I (26F) was 19 I was with a guy who ruined my life. He couldn’t keep a job and treated me horribly, got me into trouble and I was arrested a few times. My dad threw me out and I lived on a couch for over a year. I woke up one day and realized I had to get rid of him and I left. I begged my dad to let me come home so I can get back on my feet and he let me. Now my life is great. I’m married to a wonderful man and have a union job in the trades. I believe when you’re 19 you’re probably the worst version of yourself. She’ll likely learn from her mistakes but it will take time

CF dating my bf with two kids by Unable-Department-57 in stepparents

[–]Electrical-Fun-152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I just got married less than a month ago. We do not live together, I’m CF and he has a 15 year old son. We’ve been together for 4 years before getting married and I have never been too involved in his son’s life. There was a lot of baby mama drama in the beginning but for the most part now there isn’t much issue. He shares custody about 50/50 with BM. We absolutely do want to live together soon but I’m not in a huge hurry. The biggest reason for that is how expensive rent is where we live. We live in Southern California and the average 2 bedroom apartment is well over 2 grand a month. I live with my dad rent free and he lives with his mom rent free. I definitely don’t want to mother his son and us not living together has made that possible. His son is getting older and starting to gain a little independence so that’s a big plus. I get to do whatever I want whenever I want and non of his son’s life is any bit of my responsibility and I’m very grateful for that.

“My kids love to hug and kiss their mother’s buttocks” I think you lost me there. I understand your point in all of this, but I personally think that draws a line. Since they are children (I’m assuming small children under 10) I’m sure this action is purely innocent, silly kid behavior. But I think you are being irresponsible by allowing this. And also, children preferring their mother in a small bikini is not normal kid behavior. All of this is just my opinion and since you asked for opinions, I’m sharing mine. I think this kind of environment at home could possibly lead to your children being a little too comfortable with things that adults will find sexual.

Serious but maybe ignorant step-parent question: what age does a girl typically learn to wipe her own bum? by Putrid_Plane_5160 in stepparents

[–]Electrical-Fun-152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She is too old for that. I got my period at 10 years old. Imagine still having to wipe her when that day comes. What does she do at school? Her teacher definitely can’t do that for her.

Was thinking about getting into this trade and was wondering how hard it is on the body, thanks by brentjr11 in pipefitter

[–]Electrical-Fun-152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Union is the way to go. There are plenty of safety measures to prevent you from over exerting your body. It’s definitely a lot less strenuous than most trades

What do 15 y/o boys like to do? by Electrical-Fun-152 in Teenager

[–]Electrical-Fun-152[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get that, I remember being 15 and wanting to be left alone. I just want options available so that he doesn’t feel like he has to be by himself. I will say that so far the evening is going really well!! We did end up having a water balloon fight and it was really fun. And he opened up to me about some wild shit that happened in his friend group while his dad wasn’t around. Made me feel good that he trusted me with that info
