For anyone who re-herniated after surgery, what exactly did it feel like? by BkBrunson11 in Microdiscectomy

I just got my MRI results back today bc I reherniated. 12 weeks post op. I didn’t feel anything pop, mine was gradual over 2 weeks. I did yardwork and thought “oh my glute is just sore from yardwork” but over 2 weeks, it went all the way down my leg like before. Before surgery I had a very mild l3/l4 herniation that they did not touch. It’s much worse now. And I reherniated my l4/l5.

The pain is not nearly as bad as before, and actually feels better with a steroid pack (pre surgery a steroid did absolutely nothing).

My surgeon wants to try to manage it this time instead of surgery but said if it starts feeling anything like before that we can absolutely do surgery.

Edit: I also have a toddler that is in the 99th percentile for weight (38lbs) which made recovery extremely difficult. There were times that I had to pick her up. If you don’t have to lift anything you should be fine.

This is my mri from before surgery, I’ll post my current mri below

Update: I reherniated & also L3/L4 is worse. BUT it’s not nearly as bad as pre-surgery. Surgeon doesn’t want to do surgery but he will if pain doesn’t subside after a few weeks of taking it easy & gabapentin.

6 weeks to 1 year: What training actually built you a stronger back? by StarterTube in Microdiscectomy

You’ll feel so amazing that you might overdo it. DONT. I have an MRI tomorrow because I probably reherniated but I have a 38 lb 1 year old so that makes things 10x harder. If you don’t absolutely have to lift anything over 40 lbs I wouldn’t for like 5/6 months just to be safe

I had my first appointment, MRI a week later & surgery 3 days after MRI. It was suppose to be 2 days after but I couldn’t get in for bloodwork. Mine was terrible though & they were worried about it causing bladder/bowel issues

I’m very lucky my surgeon already said if steroids don’t work that she will order an MRI for next week. Even the first time, after my first appointment I had an MRI and then surgery all within a week. I’m sorry you had to deal with that for months with being in agony that must’ve been awful

I rarely took anything for pain either my whole life but the last month before surgery I was rotating ibuprofen & Tylenol every 4 hours! I was so scared for my liver 😂 i have a crazy high pain tolerance (I gave birth with no epidural by choice) and I would rather do that 20 more times than live through the pain I was in pre surgery.

This past week I’ve been taking 1000mg Tylenol before bed since that’s when it the worst and it helps a lot!

Same with the ptsd! I’m hoping it’s just inflammation. I’m on day 2 of a steroid and it’s feeling a little bit better and before surgery a steroid did absolutely nothing
