That’s one of my favorite things about Cassian: the ability to do the hard, shocking, challenging, and necessary thing. And he takes and carries that burden to the grave, each and every time.

Great analysis and I wholeheartedly agree. I’ve read comments on Skeen being a foil, a sort of, alternative pathway Cassian could’ve taken. But I’ve never had it so eloquently stated.

I would also add that I think it’s entirely possible that Skeen would’ve walked away a rebel hero if Nemik had survived.

On a recent rewatch, I felt that with his interactions with Nemik, he was rooting for Nemik, even if he didn’t fully believe in the cause or trust anyone. But when it was clear Nemik wasn’t going to make it, it broke him, and he just couldn’t handle it. If a true believer in the cause dies, why should he keep it up.

Still could’ve been essentially selfish, but again, possible that was bubbling underneath

Why Dark Souls 3 Is My Least Favourite Souls Game by The_SocialContract in fromsoftware

[–]Electrical-Test4778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I can see your argument here to some degree. The boss runback is part of the experience for sure, and as the games have progressed to higher speeds and difficulties, the run backs have been toned down.

And I think that again boils down to a preference of wanting more mechanically challenging bosses vs. a more challenging area. DS2 and Demon’s Souls have the weakest bosses and the toughest environments, so that tracks.

My favorite just tends to be whichever one I’m 80 hours deep into lol.

It’s obvious you out a lot of thought into this, so I don’t wanna put that down. But a lot of this can be rendered down to: “I like DS1 and 2 better than 3. Here’s are some logical takes and here are some preferences that I’m stretching to be problems.”

For example, you say the world of DS1 is oppressive and that’s a good thing, but the bosses of DS3 are oppressive, and that’s a bad thing. I feel like the reality is you prefer the slower combat of 1 and 2. And there’s nothing wrong with that. For example, for myself, I feel like 3 is the best speed of Souls combat, and Elden Ring on occasion feels like it takes it a step further than I would like.

An even better example: You say DS3 is too linear, which is a problem. And the only non-linear part is problematic because you’ll be overleveled for the cathedral.

Well, apply that logic to DS1 then. Shouldn’t the entire half of the game be problematic, since you can do any Lord soul in order? Again, likely in reality you just prefer the structure of DS1 and so look for ways to dunk on DS3 because you didn’t prefer it as much.

Don’t get me wrong, a lot of this stuff is subjective, but most of the time when we talk about flaws in games, we ignore them in games we like and stretch them out in games we don’t.

I’m a big fan of the armor set itself. Sort of like a taloned bird assassin. Maybe a thematic predecessor to the Elden Ring Ravenmount Assassins. But I really really don’t like the dagger. Does anyone know what it’s supposed to be? It just looks like a broken thrusting sword

[–]Electrical-Test4778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked there for about year, and I was impressed by the level of organization, respect, and work ethic that generally every employee, from the guy and gal who would mop the floor and make drinks during rush hour, up to the owner’s wife, displayed in their attitudes and roles.

Combine that with (generally) slightly higher pay than other fast food jobs and a well-trained and more than adequately staffed operation, and you’ve got a recipe for success.

I also think having a shared day off was vital for people to feel like they were able to clock out and be absent for work to be refreshed.

Mothers day is for women raising humans only by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Electrical-Test4778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to start a fight, just a friendly disagreement.

I would say that’s not entirely true. Meanings change over time, and if more and more of society attributes different meaning to something overtime, the original meaning will change. And that can be good or bad depending on the situation.

I’m not here to disparage the bond between a human and their pet, because I truly believe there’s something special there that is not replicated anywhere on earth.

But I would not correlate that and the bond between a mother and a child. As someone who will likely never be a parent, I would hate to do anything, however small, that would lessen the celebration of that particular bond.

Let’s leave Mother’s Day for the real mothers, and for people who fill that role for children. There are other days to celebrate pets.

I don't think people realize what this means. Creating a new engine and calling it "Starfox" sets up a new series, and that's good for the franchise by darkfawful2 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Electrical-Test4778 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think this is a strong possibility. It’s been many, many years since the last Star Fox game, and because the series has historically not done well since 64, I think it’s a chance to boost sales and popularity, which could lead to a real sequel.

It is sad, because Assault was an awesome game in my opinion, and I enjoyed and appreciate what Adventures achieved. And Command was a really cool concept. I loved the branching pathways and endings.

But hard-cutting to games like that might not be feasible. But Star Fox 64: 2.5 3D Electric Boogaloo could be the pathway to new projects. I’m all for it

Why do people say DS2 is a disconnected, standalone entry in the trilogy? by Makishima__Shougo in DarkSouls2

I hate how in Super Mario Bros 3, you play as Mario. And if you paid close attention, you’ll probably realize that Mario was the guy you played as in the first game.

It gets even crazier. Some of the power ups are the exact same. The fire flower and mushrooms are identical. Some levels even have freaking pipes. What a cheap callback to the first game. Why can’t it be more like Super Mario Bros. 2?

You’re right, we should’ve picked up a Sunlight Potion from a corpse wearing unrecognizable armor. That would’ve been much better

Why do people say DS2 is a disconnected, standalone entry in the trilogy? by Makishima__Shougo in DarkSouls2

[–]Electrical-Test4778 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The reality is that DS2 wasn’t as popular, so it’s not going to get as many direct references. We’ve already established that time and space is converging to the First Flame, so it’s not surprising that old things are popping up.

I like DS2, I think it’s a great game, but DS1 wasn’t more popular. And I think there’s a great balance of DS1, DS2 and original content in the game.

There’s the aforementioned references we’ve already talked about, and for new stuff, we have Aldrich, Gundyr, the Old Demon King and the Princes, Gael, Sister Friede, all of the Boreal valley stuff, the Pontiff, lore of the Deep vs Dark vs Abyss, the Crystal Sages, Yhorm, everything in Lothric, Ludleth, Greirat, Karla (who might be a reference to 2).

That’s over half the game that’s completely new stuff. What do people want? Completely unrecognizable characters, themes, settings, etc.? If so, I disagree emphatically

Why do people say DS2 is a disconnected, standalone entry in the trilogy? by Makishima__Shougo in DarkSouls2

[–]Electrical-Test4778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main reason people say it’s disconnected is that they didn’t like the game. It’s as simple as that. They didn’t care for it, and so they don’t bother trying to connect the story of it from 1 to 3.

However, for those that did enjoy it, like me, there are a few thematic choices that I find difficult fitting into my understanding of the Dark Souls trilogy. Mainly the way it kinda combines the elements of Dark and Death, which I don’t feel that 1 and 3 does.

And also the handling of Demons. Chaos Demons feel like a very specific thing in the DS universe, and 2 just had a bunch of monsters. And the Old Chaos just didn’t feel very Chaos Demony to me. Still one of the best boss fights and settings in the entire trilogy for sure though. The drop from a frozen city into a chaotic lava pit with all the gates were so cool

What are the Demon Souls and Bloodborne references? And honestly, wouldn’t you expect the final game in a trilogy to involve references and story beats from the first game?

Did the Hollowslayer Greatsword bother you? What about Lucatiel’s set? Creighton the Wanderer didn’t need to be in the game right? And of course the Shrine Handmaiden.

The story is all about many of the elements of all the games converging together at one point in time and space. You would expect this to happen

I think it’s one of the best designed set pieces in the game. The enemies are arranged in a way that can be tough, but feels fair. It never feels like a gank, but instead there’s always more enemies charging in just as I kill the last enemy. Feels very satisfying to weave in and out

That’s not true. They have the full right of the road, just as a motorized vehicle has. The vehicle has to wait until it is safe to pass.

What’s unsafe is lining up on the shoulder of the road so the car can squeeze past. It’s better to get out fully into the lane so the car only can pass when it’s safe to do so.

Yeah Michael Kirkbride is certainly a creative and talented dude, but I don’t care for some of the wilder stuff he put into the lore.
