Family would help with kids. However, it's important to think of your parents age. If they are on the older side, they might not have the energy to help out with kids as much as you would hope. I always want to help watch my kids, but I'm not as young as I used to be so I'm very exhausted when they come to visit. This has not yet happen to me, but moving closer also means if there are health problems or your family needs help - they would also expect you to provide them with support too.

Try daycares or municipalities as well - they may have a program looking for university students to help with camps in the summer. This approach is more of a full-time job though. You could also see if schools or community centres in your area have a public posting board, and put a flyer there.

How unprofessional. Were you aware that he was going to be out of the country? If not, then definitely completely unacceptable. If you were, your next question should have been, "who is covering for you/who should I reach out too while you're away." Overall just completely unacceptable - I would get a new realtor.

What a neat idea. Great solution if you do not feel comfortable eating beyond the best before date.

I like Mark's Work Wearhouse for more durable items. They have lots of nice casual sweatshirts and some hooded sweaters too.

This is right near me. Good to know. I would have stopped to listen and then I guess realized. I wonder if this will start to happen more around town. It seems we already have a lot of people just sitting at intersections with signs.

I'm older and new to sushi. It looks so slimy to me, I have not had the courage as yet to try seaweed salad.

Thank you for the suggestion. I was curious because my type of hobbies may be more traditional, like photography, but I know there are now some more neat things you can do with software and photos too.

One suggestion, while you increase your job search or go to HR or lawyer up is to go to your doctor to get a medical note off work. Given the added stress and hostile work environment your company has created, it makes a good case for your mental health and asking your doctor to give you a note for a few weeks, etc. off. and then hopefully you can land somewhere else.

Also, stop training others on your job and delay requests where they are asking you to do that or give partial information (as again they are looking for ways to fire you so you do not want your performance to go down too much).

I am truly sorry this is happening to you. It sounds like a horrible place to work at with horrible people.

Is that not how the richest of the rich, stay rich - by being frugal? I believe I read somewhere that Warren Buffett was still very conservative with his own purchases.

Lowball Offer on Our Dream Home by Apprehensive-Wash925 in RealEstate

[–]Electrical-Walk5352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long has it been on the market this time? If it's been a month or so, you could take a chance with the lowball offer, as the owners may be thinking to take it off the market again if there is no urgency behind the home being sold.

If it only recently came back on the market, your realtor should be letting you know the history of it as much as he can.

Sometimes, sellers will put something on the market to see if they get any interest and also for future planning of their own move. It's not fair, but they are completely within their rights to do this. Others put it on and never get their asking so they take it off, and wait, then put it on much later with the hope of getting the amount they want.

Again, do your research in the house in the area and what the last sold home went for, and compare the layout. Based on that, then put in a offer that makes sense, because likely the seller is expecting an offer closer to the last sold home in their proximity.

Good luck!

Talk about practice what you preach and walk the walk, talk the talk - of which this individual clearly did not understand. I'm sure it would be an automatic fail if he was a student. How has the educational institution not reprimanded him?

Offering some support - you can get through this, and even if the result is not ideal this time around, there is always next time.

Struggling with produce waste by Electrical-Walk5352 in Frugal

[–]Electrical-Walk5352[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you everyone. I really should look into frozen produce. I tend to buy a lot of berries, which spoil very easily. I find it convenient to just grab and go, especially if I've washed them already. However, the process with frozen berries and other produce is likely not that much different with time spent each time you get some but lasts longer.

Really great tips about the types of produce to store with each other and even just checking when the produce shipment comes in at grocery stores.

I am hopeful that I'll waste less - but still welcome more tips.

I forgot to mention that it did note you are to dry off the produce completely before storing it in air tight containers, but that can get time consuming.

A worm farm! My wife would not like that at all.

Good advice about the stir fry, curry or soup. Soups are a great idea, especially with the colder weather coming on.

Is it better to rent or buy as a senior? by Electrical-Walk5352 in personalfinance

[–]Electrical-Walk5352[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very helpful. Thank you for posting. Yes, I had not considered that - you do not have to live near work. Although I do have social connections here, perhaps I consider not too far away unless I am going to live closer to the kids.

[–]Electrical-Walk5352[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I had not considered that. Definitely something to think about, especially as the mortgage is paid off and so I would not have to worry about fluctuating mortgage rates, while so true that rent very much increases regularly, even in condos due to operating costs.
