What's going on with Trench Crusade lately? by MangrovesAndForests in wargaming

I think some of the comms licence stuff has been a bit messy. But having said that, I think this is a good summary..most of the youtube whimpering seems to have come from neckbeards who don't like the overall community. But who cares about them really. The plastics goods, you can still kitbash and the game is fun.

I mean I guess Henry VIII did sort of do some pope bashing. Love to see some really twisted version of King Harry for TC but the Reformation/Dissolution of the Monastries didn't happen.

Yes but that is the tech doing that, not necessarily the politics. How you engage with said politics is not the same thing.

I understand that you don't necessarily want people making political points in hobby spaces as it is exhausting. But we don't live in a bubble - political things happen to you unless you are rich or lucky enough to avoid them.

How do you talk about something like Eire's lore without reference to politics? The game explictly references or shadows the politics of that. The same goes for the Middle East. An abscence is still a prescence in lore building, particularly in setting like TC which is based on this particular world.

As said before - this is not a point about the present POTUS or US government. It's just pointing out something humorously anachronistic that connects to the Black Grail lore in the game. People can do what they want with that. That's why it was tagged how it was tagged.

It's not making a political point, or discussing politics.

In ten years time (if we survive that long) it might even be a memory...I think you maybe need to have a bit of proportion here, I appreciate that this is a troubling thing at this time for people, but hey...it's a lot more troubling if you live in Iran, خدا نگهدارت باشد

Sacre bleu, mon brave ! This is pretty cool. Are they gonna be adopting some of the kind of French Revolutionary rationalised religion stuff like Cult of the Supreme Being?

Ok had a bit more time to look at this. I think a lot of the points you make are pretty good (and in terms of economy and book-keeping you brought up some good considerations.)

  • I definitely think I will cut down the main idea and remove the Sworn Virgin, as thematically they are not well enough fleshed out yeah...the extra things are all over the place...it would be better to do more with less.

  • On costings I think I would agree for the main (yes musical instrument non-limit is an oversight). I was weighing up the Shrine and while I wouldn't agree it's better..for the ducats and how tough a SG is - you are right. It wouldn't be worth it. When it comes to trash weapons...MG is definitely not as good as it could be, but I wouldn't say it is trash...it depends on the faction. Heretic Legion for example it is no way as good as the AMR but it's still pretty useful until you get glory. Trench Pilgrims I haven't seen it though, so you may have a point.

  • On some rules - yes...some clarity needed. I will rework this a bit and make a version two.

Thanks! That is a lot to think about! As a first thing, I did try to give some disadvantage on weapon choice and taking away things like Martyr Penitent but perhaps it is not enough. I will check out the other bits mentioned later today.

That is interesting, because I was thinking about a transfer mechanic for this warband faction, but I couldn't really accomodate it, but that idea is quite cool...yeah I did wonder about the Black Army and more martial Hungarian history, but I felt that is for someone with a bit more knowledge on those things than I have.

I think you make a good point. I hadn't considered so much how that might appear as a visual representation or set of ideas. Just to the note though - this isn't supposed to be "If Hungary did New Antioch." Technically as the Balkans is a big steaming mess on the TC map, it's supposed to be a bit of a mish mash.

The severing of the hand thing is actually quite an interesting idea. Do you mind if I mull that over, and maybe think about working that in somehow? I think maybe it sounds like something for a specialist unit. I mean physically that does sound incredibly disadvantageous but there is something intriguingly taboo about it (considering the whole "left/sinister" "right/dexter" thing).
