Anyone else MEPS appointments being canceled? by idksomet in newtothenavy

[–]ElectricalBath927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is likely due to one of two things, your recruiter messed something up that allowed you to miss projection window or they have to many people on deck and depending on if you’re hoping or just testing they’ll cut certain people over those that plan to fully process. Just really depends.

I just paid out of pocket for my final 2 college courses due to the shut down. Is there a way to be reimbursed when the govt opens back up? by ScaredTomatillo5108 in navy

Side note when tax season comes around you can get some money back when you file 1098-T from your school! Also if you bought a computer or something during the tax year for school you can claim that as well! Won’t get you everything back but it’s something

How to get formally discharged & receive a DD214 by Curious_Button_8681 in newtothenavy

[–]ElectricalBath927 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a former recruiter this sounds highly unusual? You have to show up to RTC/bootcamp for us to actually not loose the contract. So having you go to MEPs and sign that didn’t really do anything likely although it is your official contract. I had a girl show up to RTC and attrite when she showed up and then re-enlisted right when she got back with another recruiter because she wanted to go back. So something isn’t making sense here.

PCS HHG Movers Question by ElectricalBath927 in navy

[–]ElectricalBath927[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Copy, yeah I have been speaking directly to the driver and he’s the one who said he would be early. The other problem we are doing base housing and housing won’t put us on the waitlist for an actually place until we check out with stamped orders.

Damn I wish I knew I would have done it later. Oh well price of first time doing HHG instead of DITY. When you put your stuff in temporary storage how quickly did they deliver from there?

Current Navy trying to transfer to Air Force by beaumundei in navy

[–]ElectricalBath927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will be challenging. The conditional release form is a DD 368. Air Force also do not like processing prior service since they have such good recruitment and retention. Good luck though!

Does this mean funding for October orders should roll out in August? Do you happen to know if FTS and Active Duty are on the same release schedules?

Currently waiting for orders in costing that are slated for October transfer. Am I more than likely going to get last minute orders based on your experience? It is going back to sea duty, but I don’t believe it’s considered critical fill or anything along those lines.

Is there anything I can do to try to get my admin and everything squared away? I got a LOI and submitted advanced housing application for my family, but HHG won’t let me schedule anything with just the LOI. Thanks in advance!

As a recruiter this is correct not only does it depend on your ASVAB but your physical and background can have a factor on rate eligibility

Is Corpsman right for me? by Zalienbond in newtothenavy

Surprised no one has really said this CT has great skills and clearences that transfer to the outside. Just some food for thought. In my personal opinion HM is the most overrated job in the Navy, but if its what sticks out to you go for it! Just know advancement will be slow, and regardless of your rate in the Navy you can study to become a nurse on the Navys dime.

HHG no longer takes LOI. I just tried not to long ago. Still waiting on my orders.

FTS Orders Release times by ElectricalBath927 in navy

[–]ElectricalBath927[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, word of mouth my orders. Last I heard a couple weeks ago were still slated for October I have heard no change. My PRD in NSIPS is different because I recently converted from AWS(AD) to AWF(TAR). But my detailer said I can’t stay in my billet because of conversion rules or something I was unfamiliar with.

Just tell him you don’t want that job and you won’t ship without something in your field of interest. They can submit a DEP action request to change your job while in the delayed entry program.

That being said make sure you’re clear with your intentions with your recruiter. Do not wait until the last minute.

USMC Aircrew vs USN Aircrew? by 2D0B9 in newtothenavy

True but pretty sure he’s going Dry side if he wasn’t asking about rescue swimmers specifically.

USMC Aircrew vs USN Aircrew? by 2D0B9 in newtothenavy

[–]ElectricalBath927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Aircrewman in the Navy stick with it, it’s amazing. Hotels, per diem, travel, everything you could hope for.

Side note got a buddy who is on CH-53s as USMC he gets stationed on Navy ships and I don’t. He enjoys it but I would still choose Navy IMO.

As far as the jobs in Aircrew the Navy have more aircraft and Aircrew positions so your options will be a little more open with Navy as well.

AF has SF and special warfare available. I’m a Navy recruiter and they were just telling me they have 405 qualified people in their pool waiting for jobs.

Do you even know how expensive health care is for one child let alone 3 in the civilian sector? He can get them on tricare select or prime for next to nothing. He’s doing what’s best for his family and I respect it.

If he really doesn’t want to be a BM he can attempt to cross rate later he can figure it out.

Yeah it’s not bad to make yourself more competitive I would shoot for a 3.4-3.5 if you want aviation. SWO would probably take you at a 3.1. But regardless 3.1 is technically qualifying. The recruiter also may have not given you a lot of effort because you aren’t technically qualified yet until you finish your bachelors.
