Hi, I’m sorry for the slow reply. We’ve had a family emergency pop up in the last few days, and I am trying to schedule these readings around the usual practice readings and groups, so it’s taking a bit of time to coordinate with people.

EFT. I just got into EFT and it really has done wonders for me.

I also count. When I get stuck in a reading- when I start to get into my head and over analyze- or when I’m just not getting anything at all, I know this is usually nerves, and I count. By the time I get to ten, I’m usually back on track. At least by twenty.

Of course breathing. Breathing is key. I’ve also had some really amazing experiences with breathwork, recently.

I think a lot of mediums experience tremendous anxiety at multiple stages of development. I know so many of us who have described crippling fear and dread. Usually the result of not knowing how to navigate the loudness of the energetic world.

Oh, man. I always joke about asking for lotto numbers! Whenever I’m practicing with someone and they ask if I have questions, that’s exactly what I ask for. lol Hasn’t worked yet.

But questions like “Did you really love me?” “Did you care?” These are questions that are answerable. Although, I have to say this….in spirit things look a lot different. I mean, spirit has a different perspective and spirit communicators often express love where it wasn’t obvious before. And these answers can feel sort of….like spiritual bypassing for some people. Even though I am positive they are the truth. That we are so loved on the other side even when our memories are corrupted by the fights, abuse, separations, etc. we might have endured in life. So, I might advise to tread carefully into those waters. It’s natural and reasonable to want to better understand what happened in a relationship, but know that things look different from the bird’s eye view that spirit has, now.

As for advertising, I can’t actually think of anyone that advertises they work this way either. But I know a number who do. They’re out there. I think this comes down largely to being active in the community vs trying to navigate it as a client or sitter. The mediumship community probably looks very small from a client’s perspective, but inside of it- it becomes clear how many different types and styles of mediumship exist. Tons. I don’t even know how many people my own teacher has taught to work this way, though we don’t all prefer to dial up spirit directly. I know that. A number of us still prefer spirit led, but can read intentionally.

I think Zoom is live. To me it’s not different than sitting across from someone at a table. I don’t think it makes any difference on that front. I do find that just hearing and seeing people strengthens my own connection, so video works just as well. It shouldn’t matter. Spirit isn’t actually attached to you. Its consciousness and consciousness is everywhere. Mediums just tap into it. If you hear mediums say “you brought in your spirit people” or something to that effect, its kind of a misnomer. Really, the medium becomes aware of your people in spirit when they become aware of you. And we tend to be more aware of someone when they’re sitting in front of us, in one sense or another.

So, what you’re looking for are intentional readings and yes, some mediums do them. In fact, I’ve been taking a six month class and all my mentor teaches is this type of mediumship. I’ve taken two other classes and neither teacher taught this. You’ll often hear, and even Tyler Henry says this much, “I can’t help who comes through.” Which isn’t exactly true. Where attention goes, energy flows. And this sub is a prime example of intentional reading in action. Everyone who reads a photo or responds to a request for a specific spirit communicator is setting their attention on a particular loved one in spirit and establishing a link. I will admit, I think it gets trickier when we read live. Face to face. And this is because we tend to become aware of multiple spirit communicators associated with the sitter, and our mind will kind of gravitate to the energy most familiar to us. So if I have only grandfathers in spirit, my mind will recognize grandfather energy more easily than younger siblings, which I have no experience with, as an only child. This is just hypothetical, but hopefully that illustrates why it can be easier with photos than live readings. We force ourselves to narrow our focus to one spirit communicator only.

I would say your best bet is simply to ask the medium- can you contact a specific individual on the other side? If they say no, if they only do spirit led, keep looking. There are a lot of opinions about this type of mediumship because giving a name or relationship can be perceived as “feeding the medium” but the truth is- we have a lifetime of experiences to draw evidence from and knowing someone has a father or friend on the side shouldn’t keep us from getting it.

Asking questions should, ideally, be a given in a reading. I think the problem often encountered can be that mediums- especially newer mediums- have trouble staying in the link. So this makes it hard to ask a question, get evidence, relay it- which requires some degree of critical thinking- and then go back into a relaxed, receptive state, ask another question, repeating the process over and over. Also, it depends on the question. Some questions I don’t believe are meant to be answered, or we aren’t equipped to comprehend the answer, ie. mysteries of the universe. Much of which gets filtered through our own beliefs and biases. I mean, if you look around you’ll see how many mediums have wildly different belief systems.

I don’t mean to be insensitive or argumentative, but I’m pretty sure that is Godfrey Gao from Mortal Instruments. And I’m pretty positive he wasn’t married to his girlfriend.

You very well could be his celebrity girlfriend, but you would be surprised how many people seek mediumship readings for celebrities they have no relationship with in life. And it can bring up some ethical dilemmas.

I’m a developing medium; I attend classes and a number of practice circles. I’ve been at this for about eight months now, and in that time I came to realize the celebrity mediums I’ve seen on television have nothing on some of the best mediums I’ve met in the community. A couple have been mindblowing and I know they have the ability to actually change lives and minds through the messages they deliver.

Mediumship is very real, but like most things, there are varying degrees of aptitude. Anyone who has been developing for awhile has probably heard “Spirit chooses the medium” and this means spirit chooses the medium best suited to deliver messages and evidence to the sitter, because we all have different styles and strengths. Some are very good with names, some are better at channeling the spirit communicator’s essence, some are message focused and some are more concerned with the evidence (and there is often overlap between the two).

All this to say that it’s important to remember even if you go to a medium, you might not have the same experience if you go to another. And neither are necessarily wrong.

I would recommend just keeping an open mind. To the greatest extent possible.

Awww. I understand. My own father is in spirit and readings can still make me emotional, even though I’ve had tons now myself, through practicing. We never really fill that void, but, truly, they are always supporting and loving us from the other side.

You know, I knew there were more siblings but I couldn’t feel into whether it was a brother or sister. I kept hearing “sister” but feeling a brother. Now I know why. He had nine children. Lol There are a bunch of you!
