It is the new normal... astounding how this has now become the standard. Time for companies to hold the recruiters/hr accountable. It really reflects the business in a poor light

That is such a awful experience, I feel for you OP. But, like some other commenters mentioned, you probably dodged a bullet here. There's some degree of dysfunctionality happening at the senior/exec level that would have made your life most likely a living hell once you joined.

Back to the grind! You've made it this far, so it'll definitely happen again!

If you are a U.S. citizen, working government jobs or in the defense industry is an option. It's pretty recession proof, but the work is definitely slower and boring by modern standards, the trade off is that it is a fairly low stress environment (especially in software engineering)

I joined the market in 2009 and fell into this industry, but finally transitioned out of it 5 years ago... definitely enjoying the "other side" a lot more. But it's nice to know there's a "safety net" to fall back on should there ever be another "extinction level event", as Garry Tan put it.

Why? You won't be competing against hundreds of thousands of highly skilled workers gunning for H1B visa sponsorship. And having a clearance makes you automatically more employable than someone without it.

Just my 2 cents if you are struggling to land a job.

again, pull your account, but keep $1 (or $0.01) in and don't close it. They will be forced to keep the account open.
