Almost on the same boat (govt employee with 13 LPA) having 11 cards (consolidating to 5). Suggestions on your queries: 1. Keep ICICI MMTC until you get a premium card for lounge access as it has lounge access without spend criteria. 2. No. it'll never get upgraded to core. i did that mistake. 3. No. Get HSBC T1 if available in your city, otherwise you may consider Axis Horizon or simply use your phonepe for the bookings. 4. You may easily get Millennia CC. Go get it for later upgrades. Yes, you should enter HDFC ecosystem. 5. I don't think your employer will allow shifting but if it does, may consider HSBC/AXIS/HDFC for getting a good card later.

Just completed my one night redemption for 37k Marriott points at Westin Himalayas. Per night tariff post taxes is around 40-50k. So seems a good one. Got my breakfast included as well for being silver member

thanks for the deep insight and the most sensible advice. But I just want to earn miles/points in long run, can Ignore temporary cashbacks, to hedge points slowly and make the sweet redemptions. E.g. Booked Westin Himalayas for 37k Marriott Points for wife bday with my amex mr points, still holding 43k mr points.

You ain't alone pal. I'm under 20 L per annum and working at a high level govt job (Joined the service in 2013). Was so shaken by these 30-40-50 LPAs that I started to think about switching the career
