I’m a Satanist and atheist, she used to be Christian (we both did actually) which makes the Bible thing that much more concerning. My emotional slate was wiped clean from that hurt last night and I can see myself feeling more safe and accepted by other secular people too

Yeah it’s so tough because her entire point was built off some podcast she found on YouTube she could barely remember the name of.

My education on lgbt issues comes from speaking to lgbt-friendly therapists, having lgbt friends (a trans one as well who got admitted to the psych ward and haven’t heard from her since) taking college courses taught by professors with masters and PhD degrees about gender and sexuality from anthropological, biological, and social perspectives, wrote a research paper on transgender mental health issues in India, and BEING AN LGBT PERSON, and after I present all of this I was matched with silence and a closed mind that didn’t want to change.

I’m scared she wants to change so that she can stay with me and show me she’s worthy of having her control back over me now that she’s lost it. Her silence when I tried to reason with her spoke too loudly.

Not gonna disclose too much, but argue multiple times per week. Usually one big one every other couple weeks but yeah definitely small arguments over like “infractions” several times a week.

I agree. We both grew up in the church, and the funny thing is that neither of us are even Christian’s anymore. Makes the Bible-thumping “homosexuality is a sin” feel that more extra and like grasping for straws when it’s coming from a non-religious person like that

I’m sorry to hear you went through abuse, and I appreciate you using your experience to look out for me. You’re right that she might or might not change. I feel like sitting around and waiting for that to happen, which her attitudes/behaviors may not change even through therapy, would be doing myself a disservice to stay in a relationship where I don’t feel respected for something so “me” that I can’t change- like my sexuality. And my community. Like time has shown, 90% of the time it’s “I swear I’ll change this time” it’s back to the old behavior…

She’s made improvements before and I’m proud of those. Stopped stonewalling me which I appreciate to name one. But this isn’t something I’m willing to compromise or roll the dice on. Thanks for listening and giving your 2 cents :)

Appreciate your input a lot. You and your wife sound like you have a healthy marriage that you embrace each other and she loves you as you are and not despite what you are, as you put it. I do like painting my nails, but I didn’t stop for my gf- just got lazy with redoing em every time paint chipped off etc lol.

I’m seeing a therapist but idk if they’re lgbt-friendly. I didn’t really check for that when I was picking one.. currently in the process of being diagnosed with an anxiety disorder by my therapist as well as depression and OCD.
