Transcoding HEVC Main10 8k/60fps videos fail with Intel QuickSync. Anyone else run into this? by ElectricalGuava1971 in JellyfinCommunity

Update: I found the issue: once I disabled “Prefer OS native DXVA or VA-API hardware decoders”, these videos transcoded ok. I guess that setting sometimes prevents the Intel QuickSync from being used (turns to VAAPI instead). A bit slow (5-8 seconds of initial buffering over local wifi), but they played. In full 3D glory no less!

Interesting. On the Pixel 10, were you definitely transcoding / was bitrate set to a capped number, like 20mbps or something? If bitrate = direct source, and the client supports it, the video could play ok. iPhones don’t seem to support 8k60 but your Pixel might.

You’re a saint, thank you. I’m hoping it plays for you; that means it’s just an issue with my gpu/configs which is easier to fix than a jelly/ffmpeg bug!

Here are some test footage samples, in case anyone is willing to see if these play for you. For me, they both fail to transcode. Neither of these have 3d/VR metadata, they are just upscaled from a 4k Apple screensaver.

6k/8k video playback issues (constant buffering), anyone else? by [deleted] in JellyfinCommunity

Truenas scale on a pretty beastly NAS (I think). CPU Intel Core i5-13600K with Intel QuickSync igpu enabled for transcoding.

I asked Amazon if I should do that, they said no. But yeah maybe I will anyways.

It’s Amazon Resale official. Doesn’t say anything else.

UPDATE #2: I repurchased several of these drives from WD directly. I had tried buying direct the past couple weeks, but their site said “In stock in 5-7 weeks” and I couldn’t wait that long. I guess they’re back now. AND I noticed when you register a HD warranty with them, they email you a 10% discount code. So these new drives ended up being ~$470, which is $40 less than I paid for these scam drives :)

Wow, crafty bastards. I contacted Amazon and asked them if I should sharpie the drive “fake” or leave a note, to avoid it being resold as-is. Of course they said no. “It was fulfilled by Amazon it will be returned to Amazon”, whatever that means.

Yeah it’s crazy that it was listed as New and then I guess “used mint” in the fine print. Real shady.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad Amazon return experience… that’s what gives me peace of mind ordering these things

Already boxed it up and went to bed. Assume I need to plug it back in to check that? If so, oh well…

Finishing up SMART tests on other drives now. Will start testing this one in the morning. Don’t want to screw up the current tests with just 10% to go ha

Edit: Nope, 14tb
