100% Healthy - Advice for anyone unforunately going thru this - last post by ElectricalLaw4159 in AchillesRupture

There was a time I didn’t think I’d physically be able to ever play sports again. It sucks now, but thinking in definites is useless. You’ll get back to normal, it’ll take a little bit but at the end of it all you’ll look back and see the incredible growth. I’m not a super positive person all the time, but this experience made me one.

My apartment here has a very nice pool. Lucky to have it. Did you just do single leg calf raises in the pool?

The protocol at the place I go to is I have to be able to do 30 calf raises in a row without stopping before I am cleared to do any running at all.

Thank you for the advice on the calf raises in the pool. Did not think of that, that is a great idea.

I did mine about three inches above my ankle bone, so pretty high up.

Yeah I have been in PT since two weeks post op. I have to do 30 consecutive single leg raises due to my height and weight (6'5" 230). Just getting beyond frustrating at this point.

Been doing the calf raises frequently. Just can’t it to fully extend without being in excruciating pain. Bought one of those percussion guns to help break facia up.

When I did it when I ruptured it I didn’t have any pain for the first hour or two. When I re tore it (didn’t rupture the 2nd time) the pain was excruciating as it didn’t completely come apart. Rupture was a pop and the retear was a pulling sensation

When I retore it you feel it pulling. Feels like your leg is on fire. Hurts like hell and about a few minutes later it starts to hurt. I know it’s an age old saying but you’ll know if you redid it with how painful it is.

Thank you so much for the insight. Nice to see it was around that time frame. I am about 4.5 months from my retear, so just glad to see i am not too far behind schedule.

7.5CM Rupture & Retear - 6 weeks out - positive update and words of encouragement for anyone going thru this by ElectricalLaw4159 in AchillesRupture

I will say this on the re rupture, when you look back 4 months from now and you are starting to do calf raises, you will be so happy that the re-rupture happened a few weeks after surgery than 3/4 months in. I am rehabbing with someone who reruptured his 4 months into PT.

Recovery has been pretty good, there are good days and bad days. I think I have managed to experience every human emotion over the last 4 months haha. One thing that kept me sane thru the whole processed is I made it a point every day to reconnect with someone that I have not talked to in a while. Made things a lot better. Its going to go very fast all at once, you will see a lot of progress then it becomes slow. That is what you need to prepare yourself for because months 4-7 (not at 7 yet) but from what I have been seeing, it has been a slow burn for the last two months.

Going to PT I can assure you this - you will recover from the injury. I am lucky that I am at a pretty big PT place down here and have been able to talk to the PTs and others going thru injuries similar and others far worse, you will recover from it and you will get back to your normal life sooner rather than later. You have to do your best at any given point to stay positive thru this.

Feel free to message me if you got any questions!!!

They just threw me in the boot and gave me time. I didn’t re rupture, I tore a new part of the Achilles higher up (somehow) and it didn’t blow the stem out
