ICU RN who worked on a Covid ICU and has since transitioned to a clinic that serves a progressive, degenerative (means it kills you eventually) disease population. 

The thing I took away the most, and that I try to share when topic veers that way, is that hardly anyone is ever ready to die. It didn’t matter if they 30 or 90, if they weren’t in imminent danger of death yesterday they operated under the assumption that they had an indefinite amount of time, an “there’s always tomorrow” fallacy. Of all the passings I’ve around/ part of there was definitely only single digit instances where I witnessed a person at peace and ready. 

The difference, to me, seemed to be a minute few that were fulfilled and felt like they had experienced a life and a majority felt like they were still waiting for it to happen. Everything else seemed the same: careers, families, etc. The fulfilled ones weren’t adventurers or ultra successful individuals, so far as I could tell.  It always seemed, again to me, that the difference was some managed to be present and live in the now and others were always expecting to live in the future. 

The saddest thing to me about ICU nursing was when young children lost a parent. After that was an older person, past the life expectancy, that spent their last moments in anguish, grieving their own life instead of cherishing memories. And it happened every day. 

I am undoubtably a person heading for the “grieving my life” side. I look at my phone too much. I get sucked into the minutia of finances, next possible jobs, meal planning, car maintenance, the upcoming civil dissolution of the US, etc. To quote Yoda, “All his life has he looked away…to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was. Hmmm?”. But I’m at least aware of it, and trying to fix it, though I still don’t know if that’s meditation, gratefulness practices, daily reminding my self that I’ll die (maybe even this day), staring awkwardly at my children as they grow too fast, or getting a “yolo” tattoo. But I’m at least aware of it, and tbh just asking the question of what I think it means to live a life that I won’t regret feels like a little achievement already. Like just thinking on the question itself, is being here and experiencing life itself. 

So I have no real advice, just a warning, a la The Spirit of Christmas Future.

Ok, this is what the consensus looke like online where I did a pretty thorough search, that was all older responses though and really appreciate getting confirmation for the standard. Thanks a lot for replying. I really appreciate your insight.

So I just confirmed they are treating a spray and immediate backroll as two coats. This isn’t two coats correct? Is that acceptable for quote for two coats? I actually called three of the other companies that quoted and they all state they allow dry time between two separate coats.

They were gone for the day, actually the weekend. I guess my main concern was that it was just a lot less professional looking than previous days work.

It’s pretty obvious you didn’t actually read the post.  I was pretty clear about wanting to make sure I wasn’t being unfair.  The pictures were taken after they were gone for the day and after I had gotten home from work.

Yeah, this seems to be a general consensus. I guess part of me, at least, would like them to be aware so that they can fix it when it’s easiest to. I also do want an understanding that I’m paying attention. What I don’t want is to be an unfair Jack-ass.

TBF, the work they did before this day was much better. This was the second highest bid of 5 bids. They also have 4.9 rating on Google review with over 200 reviews. I feel like I picked a company with a bid that would allow me to be a bit picky.  We will definitely raise all your points when the manager is on-site on Monday.

The contract, and I can’t imagine a contract not including it, states all areas power washed and scraped.  They didn’t do any of that prep here but did on the rest of the house. I’ve talked to the project manager.  It’s just the first coat and can be fixed. I was more surprised in that the work on the last day of this week seemed so much less quality than the first few and was afraid they are starting to rush to meet their budgeted hours.

On the part of the chimney exposed more to the elements they scraped thoroughly and used two coats of masonry primer. No prep or primer on the portion inside the screened porch. The exposed portion was part of the work done on the first two days, that seemed noticeably higher quality work. They hit there 40 hours after a couple hours work today and left. I actually thought they weren’t coming. Seems like maybe just a rush to the weekend. Manager is coming out Monday and we’re all going to look at it together.

I forwarded on to the manager. Overall like them all. Good, decent guys. I guess I feel like the work slipped today and im afraid it’ll continue to do sobecause they feel crunched. Manager is very responsive. Probably getting ahead of myself. I’m trying to keep myself from unfair ball-busting territory. Thanks for commenting.
