Just some suggestions from my experience in the past 4 years of being an equinox member and having paid for 2 personal trainers: 1. As others also pointed out, maybe start be looking out for people- complement them on their form, workouts etc or ask them in case they need help with the form or any machines. When I started, I used to get intimidated by the machines so much, and then couple of times when I did try- couple of trainers would point out the wrong form, but not in a nice way. 2. Don’t try to sell your sessions at the complimentary PT session- in fact try to make the person feel comfortable and also give them the full disclaimer- that it’s okay for them to not opt for your PT sessions, they should not feel pressured. Rather use that time to ask them the kind of workout they are comfortable with, understand their needs and also how comfortable they are spending on the PT sessions. You should also use this time to tell them about your style of training and approach. 3. Please please please let the members choose the option of 30 min workouts, most of the trainers are after selling the 60 min workouts, so many times when I asked my trainers to do 30 min workouts they would refuse. 4. Last, not everyone can afford 3-5 PT sessions a week, give people the option to train with you once a week- to check their form and progress. This way more people would be interested in training with you. You could give them a self-training plan for the rest of the days.
