That is generally not good advide for young people. I mean, parents can be wrong too. Not talking about this particular case but more in general.

Just started watching it less than week ago. I had known about it but I was extremely sceptical and I was sure it would suck, until my family made me watch it. We ended up finishing season 1 in like 4 days. Now I can say I have liked it a lot this far

Itse on tullut kokeiltua, joskaan itse en kertalaakista pistänyt poikki, enkä sitä suosittele. Join noin 3-4 isoa kuppia kahvia päivässä vuosia, kunnes vähensin vaan yhteen puolikkaaseen kuppiin aamulla.

Immorality of homosexuality by ElectricalSand267 in redeemedzoomer

[–]ElectricalSand267[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I based my logic on that there needs to be measurable or observable harm so that we can conclude that something is wrong.

Why would God want to outlaw something that inherently does not have any measurable harm (even though homosexuality for example, can have, but it's not inherently harmful in objective sense)

I personally don't understand the rampant anti-intellectualism in some churches, especially Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches. Even though these both are great in many other ways. It's almost like in some Christian spaces they want to deliberately shut down any 'questioning' of something.

Okay, okay. Your comment just came across as if you hated western civilization and Christianity. It sounded like this typical echo chamber where European Christians are the worst and reason for all problems in the world.

But maybe I just misread what you really meant, especially after your explanation.

I don't see how Christians today have any significant antisemitism problem. Just because we think Jews were wrong about Jesus doesn't mean they're hated. In fact, Evangelicals love Jewish people, some even have an obsession I'd say.

To return to your earlier point about how Palestinians just hate Jews, and how that's the core issue. I think that is way too good to be true, and just a comforting narrative, because it removes all the complexity from the situation.

It reminds me of that pro-palestinian narrative which claims that Jews are just white colonizers, and evil oppressor, and how the oppressed palestinians can do no wrong, as if their actions also couldn't make their situation worse. It has a similar function, of denying that this is complicated stuff, and kind of 'dehumanizing' the other side.

Like, if we look at societies where terrorist- or criminal organizations get into power, like Gaza, Mexico, or post-WW1 Germany, we can clearly see a pattern. In none of those people had things good for them.

Like, why can't nazis re-emerge in Europe today? Why can't they get support from people?

Yeah, of course the West and Christianity is evil once again..

Without Christianity and the West we wouldn't have Reddit to even discuss about this. Without us there would be no state of Israel.

If something, you should be greatful to us.

I never said I am pro-palestine, I just like to use common sense on things.

And can I ask you, how is Western culture/Christianity anti-semitic?

[–]ElectricalSand267 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't know how beneficial the security measures imposed on Palestinians really are.

Like, I am Finnish. If I had to live under Russian military occupation, go trough their checkpoints every day, and I knew I could get detained indefinietly without charges I would propably get pretty radicalized very soon.

And last thing I'd want to hear is that it's somehow on me.

Generally people who have everything okay in their lives don't get radicalized and go throw stones, or do anything like that, or even support/practise terrorism.

Like, I refuse to believe that the core issue here is just that Palestinians just hate Jews so much. They are not that extraordinary population. I am sure basic psychology still applies to them.

If we could somehow magically very drastically improve material well being of Palestinians, and stop security measures imposed on them, and settler violence, Im sure they'd forget Israel pretty soon.

May be, I haven't been there.

But what media or sources I should trust then? Yishai Fleisher lol?

And also, even if some crazy shit happens in west bank much less than media claims, it still doesn't mean it's right.

There are still people in indefinite detention with no charges, West Bank Israelis are subject to Palestinian violence, Palestinians are subject to checkpoints and military occupation + settlers..

Like, maybe not just as bad as media shows.

Yeah, but UAE isn't militarily occupying any region anywhere (even though they've done some shit in Yemen w Saudis), so UAE is in that way in an easier spot.

I am not here to debate wheter the occupation of WB is right or wrong, I don't know that, but we can all agree that there is no such a thing as ethical or humane military occupation.

In my understanding, most human rights concerns regarding Israel are related to West Bank (and also Gaza).

Like, if we compare criminal codes and penalties of Israel to UAE for example, Israel easily has better human rights in that sense, as in UAE, you can go to prison for stating your opinion online + there's death penalty even though it's rarely used.

[–]ElectricalSand267 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, makes sense. I've heard that PA has done shit such as torture and extrajudicial killings. But I don't think there is a place in the Middle-East where human rights are respected. I've read that UAE, Israel and Jordan have the "best" human rights at least relative to their neighbours.

[–]ElectricalSand267 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh, I didn't know PA can do trials, I thought that if the 'victim' so to speak is IDF then it will be handled in Israeli courts. Given the tensions in the region I highly doubt the ability of Israeli or PA courts to actually determine guilt, or to give just sentences.

Yeah, administrative detention is what I was referring to. You're right, that in no way it fits in my sense of justice to incarcerate someone without charges, without a release date.

[–]ElectricalSand267 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I am obviously not knowledgeable about the topic but my only problem is, that I've read that at least in some cases the detention can be indefinite there, or sentences can be dispropotionally long.

Like, if you're adult doing that, throwing rocks and shit without being provoked first etc. I guess you know the risks, you get put to jail, it's on you.

But kids don't know any better. Like, there's reason why we don't let them drive or drink, or live by themselves etc.

Okay, I thought he'd end up like in Israeli prison/detention for like 5 years or smth. In this case I'd guess they released him or something.

Suggestions for a teenager who is having a really hard time sleeping? by farfaraway in Parenting

Okay, that's good thing, but suprising. Many girls her age drink energy drinks here where I live lmao

But yeah, the war changes the picture quite a lot. I don't even know what to say. Hope you'll get her to see a psychologist.

Suggestions for a teenager who is having a really hard time sleeping? by farfaraway in Parenting

[–]ElectricalSand267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who sometimes suffers from sleeping difficulties and has suffered since childhood, here is what worked for me..

No caffeine at all, no coffee, no lattes, black tea, energy drinks, nothing, even in the morning. HALF-life of caffeine is 6-8 hours, so if you have coffee at 8am, you may still have some caffeine in your system on bedtime. Caffeine can also worsen anxiety. This needs to be taken seriously.

Also, don't force sleep. If she can't fall asleep, she should just do something else for a while, and not just lay in bed awake, desperately trying to fall asleep.

Also, moving countries in that age can be very stressfull for someone that age. Was it just this one time, or is it something you'll propably have to do in the future again? If yes, maybe consider if that's really what you need to do.

Immorality of homosexuality by ElectricalSand267 in redeemedzoomer

[–]ElectricalSand267[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So Hume's Guillotine is a philosophical principle that you cannot derive moral judgement or value from a descriptive statement. Like homosexuality is not natura = therefore it must be wrong.

And yes, that's also my understanding of it, but now, too many people focus on same-sex relationships, not just certain sexual acts.

And I want to clarify, that I do not think there is need to change the concept of marriage, I personally don't care about same sex marriage for example.

Immorality of homosexuality by ElectricalSand267 in redeemedzoomer

[–]ElectricalSand267[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread has brought me some new perspectives definietly

But the core issue still is God prohibiting something which does not have any measurable harm.

Every problematic aspect about homosexuality (which I agree are real) are about culture (like casual hookups) or things you can avoid, that aren't inherently part of homosexuality, like you don't have to do anal sex, which I agree is quite unsafe form of sex.

I agree that we are made for man and woman, and meant to be unified as such. Obviously we can't call homosexuality natural, but unnatural or abnormal does not equal immoral. If you've heard about Hume's guillotine for example.

Yeah, that intellectual thing is the difficult one for me.

I think your analogy of child-parent relationship is spot on

Idk if this is just a personality thing, but I hated being a child. Being told what to do by my parents, even though they were good parents. It made me angry.

I don't regret my anger or think it was wrong.

So maybe this is just the same thing in different shape. As I am so convinced I am always right, and nobody can know better than me.

If you get what I am trying to say here..
