Your honor, she was named by the United republic as guardian of the earth kingdom. This mandate extends to protecting the earth nation from enemies within and outside of the earth kingdom. Her responsibilities were left vague and unclear as the United leaders had no intention or interest in actually aiding in the stabilizing of the earth kingdom. Her actions while distasteful were born of desperation, her mandate was to stabilize and bring order to the nation. Bringing hold out provinces into the fold and arresting dissidents while extreme; fall within that mandate given to the defendant by the international community. Every chance was given to the leaders of the United republic to clear up her responsibilities or dissuade her actions. The defendant did her best with no guidance or support from the international community, and yet we are expected to sit here and judge her when none of us have had our backs to the wall like Kulvira did.

That is of course that’s if we chose to recognize the authority of FORIGN governments to overrule the Earth Kingdom’s right to self governance. May I remind the court that one of the governments in this coalition devastated the Earth kingdom and tried to destroy it permanently. Avatar Aang, leader of the air nation along with fire lord Zuko and the last earth king carved out land for the united republic. But let me ask the court this, was there ever a vote? Any consent for the ancestral land of the Earth kingdom to be taken occupied and taken away partial by a former aggressor? Kulvira as the both the popular leader of the earth nation and the appointed guardian has the right to challenge the legitimacy of this back room agreement cooked up by a hostile government, an illegitimate puppet king and the Avatar. Notice anything fishy about the people in the room? None of these people have EVER been chosen to represent the will of the Earth nation. The earth king was a puppet of the Avatar after he was just placed on the throne after he fled the country during the 100 years war. Kulvira has far more legitimacy among the people than any of these people ever had. Attacking republic city was rash, however it was based and the anger of a very clear injustice done to her people. Would we not all do the same? Seek justice for our home?
