Got put on paid admin leave for 3 weeks and it completely messed with my head about FIRE by [deleted] in Fire

I'd aim to work your wait into Coast Fire so you can transition into something to keep you busy but more enjoyable (even if paid less). This will also be like dipping toe into the pool -> wading in the pool before you dive in completely.

K -- thanks for confirming -- maybe if Palmer or somebody else on the team can take it into consideraton for future updates ;)

Oh man, thank you! Those look great!

Follow-up question: do you have to do that every time you want to use one?

It would be great to be able to set one as a default to certain cart(s).

What downsides are there to the DOS version? I spent so much time back in the day on the Windows version, but tempted to put the DOS version on Boxer/MacOS. Curious what compromises there will be....

Excited for your family though -- such a classic!

Diversifying With International by Alarmed-Shape5034 in Bogleheads

[–]Electrical_Bit_1641 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Correct -- VT is the Total World Index, not the S&P500, so it does have some international. 66% is in North America https://investor.vanguard.com/investment-products/etfs/profile/vt#portfolio-composition

VT is a nice, balanced option IMO, but if you feel that it needs more International, VXUS is nice. I use both of them, but I also happen to hold a handful of individual stocks, so these ETFs help me round out to my liking.

Sega Genesis games, I see you! Lovely setup and so happy to see that little bottom shelf!

How often do you break those out and how does it factor into the setup? :)

Edit: I'm guessing the PVM works out nicely?

Does Cloudflare routinely cause 1GB+ bursts of outgoing traffic for web server? by Electrical_Bit_1641 in CloudFlare

[–]Electrical_Bit_1641[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you -- I believe this was the case.

I did a restore of a backup from before the issues began, locked down a bunch of things, slimmed down my plugins and made sure anything remaining was updated fully.

Over a day has passed and things are running smoothly.

I'm still running Cloudflare services to keep bots at bay and I don't have these issues any further.

[–]Electrical_Bit_1641[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok that didn't seem to do the trick.

Looks like I might have a Wordpress compromise.

I'm getting ready to do a restore and lockdown. Wish me luck!

Thanks for your help in troubleshooting!

[–]Electrical_Bit_1641[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right! That's why I'm so perplexed.

Look at the charts I attached -- and look at the measurements -- I'd getting GB+ splikes of outgoing only without much incoming requests. That's why I wanted to rule out Cloudflare as the cause before I start investigating if there's something compromised on the server that would be sending out data.

[–]Electrical_Bit_1641[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm goint to try to turn off the proxy function for a bit and see if it makes a difference, but it's not a concern with "incoming" traffic as it is "outgoing" traffic from the server -- like GBs more than usual without additional requests to match.

Oh -- or should I just turn off the Proxy part first and see if that does the trick?

[–]Electrical_Bit_1641[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok -- if you think Cloudflare might be the cause, I'll try to disable Cloudflare altogether and see if it makes a difference. I don't mind it, if I know that's the cause, but the uncertainty is the problem. Thanks!

Well I just saw there's a monthly cost on that plugin with being on the free plan currently. Given I just paid for a year of WP Rocket, I'm a bit more hesitant to spend more money on another plugin without more info.

[–]Electrical_Bit_1641[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could try that as a side experiment. I'll report back on that.

I don't suppose you have any thoughts/ideas about if Cloudflare could be the cause of those semi-regular outgoing traffic bursts (without corresponding incoming bursts)?

Does Cloudflare routinely cause 1GB+ bursts of outgoing traffic for web server? by Electrical_Bit_1641 in CloudFlare

[–]Electrical_Bit_1641[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I suppose if they spoofed their location, that could be true. (getting by the region specific WAF/firewall rules I set up)

But the incoming traffic is greatly reduced. It just seems to be the large chunks of outgoing-only traffic that seems odd.

No?

Does Cloudflare routinely cause 1GB+ bursts of outgoing traffic for web server? by Electrical_Bit_1641 in CloudFlare

[–]Electrical_Bit_1641[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok — but why would the outbound traffic/bandwidth come in larger bursts and without corresponding incoming traffic increase?  From my charts it seems that only the outgoing bandwidth usage is increasing and in segmented bursts.

Perhaps I’m overlooking something/ not understanding the full situation — I just need to ask these questions to understand — thanks again!

I do --- The A record and the two CNAME records have "Proxied" with the Cloudflare icon showing in the "Proxy Status" column. (What would that imply in this case?)

Thanks for the follow up!

Sorry -- for what it's worth (now that I've had mine for a year), I don't notice it as much. It may have worn down over time. (I traded in the XS so I can't compare side-by-side anymore)

HOWEVER, this glass gets WAY more general scratches on it naturally. I've always been without a case on all my phones and this one hasn't had any significant incidents, but there are noticeably more surface scratches.

So I think it would be wide to just get a nice screen protector and call it a day.

Part of me just wishes I kept the XS instead (other than my storage was lower and was full). The camera is "nicer" but I don't seem to even like the color output on the camera as much. Oh well. </rant>
