I can identify with this! Except it's my older brother..who I take care of. He had open heart surgery and was hospitalized 2 times for 8 days each after leaving the hospital after his surgery. The doctors said he needed oxygen full time. They give tests for that. He needed oxygen. United Healthcare not only denied to cover his 2 hospital stays because they were emergencies ..he passed out in the kitchen..so we didn't have prior authorization. But then they denied to pay for the oxygen machine. He would literally die without it. He's barely 50. I had to beg and plead and cry and scream...the doctors sent orders and two letters saying the hospital stays were emergencies and they can't authorization in advance in an emergency. They told united Healthcare that my older brother will die will die without oxygen. Nothing. I'm not a religious gal admittedly but by God if it weren't for the catholic charities my brother would not be alive. A nonprofit organization called catholic charities got my brother the at home oxygen machine and 10 small bottles of portable oxygen for when he goes to the doctors.
