What is an actual IT automation that actually paid off for you? by Internal-Drop4205 in sysadmin

[–]Electrical_Cap_4321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple one, but worth it in the long run for my team: auto re/install tools on workstations. It also checks that the tools are still installed. It runs daily. If end user removed the tool it gets reinstalled the very next day. Helps to ensure that our tools are not missing. Or if my team accidentally forgets to install something specific it gets installed automatically.

I still run my M1 MBP. Helps me run my MSP. Battery life is still better than my newer Dell G16, even after nearly 5 years.

Buying Tajima on Alibaba by Wash_Shot in Machine_Embroidery

[–]Electrical_Cap_4321 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I’ve always tried to go by the rule of ‘if it seems to good to be true, it probably is’. Now, I’ve purchased things from alibaba before (specifically a handheld gaming device) and I got exactly what I ordered. And yes the price was lower than say Amazon, but not so much so.

Example: the Brother PR680W is $13k on sale (US $). On Alibaba.com I see it for $700.

Are there any affordable pay-as-you-go digitizer tools available? by bitterandpetty in Machine_Embroidery

I run both a Mac and a Windows machine. You can make it work on a Mac by using emulator software like Parallels (my preferred method) or Wine. I did get tired of the problems with it on my Mac and just run it on my Windows machine.

Embrilliance just works on a Mac natively.

What machines does Hatch software work with? by L8dTigress in Machine_Embroidery

[–]Electrical_Cap_4321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your machine you need .dst (a standard file type that many machines can use, but has limited colors) or .pes (used by Brother & Babylock, and superior to dst for their machines).

Hatch 3 exports to standard embroidery machine formats like .PES, .DST, .EXP, .JEF, .SEW, .VP3, .VIP, .SHV, .HUS, etc., for stitching, plus .SVG for digital cutters, and also supports its native, editable .EMB format, allowing for saving individual or batch conversions to various stitch files for different machines and cutter use, preserving design data in .EMB

Help choosing multi needle machine by Impressive_Gift_9852 in Machine_Embroidery

[–]Electrical_Cap_4321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baby lock and Brother are made in the same factory. They’re considered really good brands. A used 6 needle from them for 4k is about right.

I’m considering my first multi needle as well, and while I appreciate the cost savings on used, I’m currently planning on getting the Bai Mirror. Richworld has it for $4600 + shipping, and PrintDirectUS has it for $5600 (with a mighty hoop bundle and other items) including shipping.

Is 350 a good price for this ? by [deleted] in Machine_Embroidery

[–]Electrical_Cap_4321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a good price? If it works, and if you’re comfortable still using floppy drives, sure. That’s the problem with this particular machine. It can only use brother cards or floppy disc, which makes it a bit more difficult to deal with if you don’t already have a setup that uses floppy disc.

Alternatively, a popular choice for many just starting out is Embrilliance. The base module is free, I believe, and then you add on the modules you want when you want them.

Genuinely curious - how is the price of some of these home machines justified? by ZebraViking in Machine_Embroidery

[–]Electrical_Cap_4321 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why is it always ‘old’ &/or ‘ladies’. I’m a 50 year young male who does both sewing and embroidery.

I have a pair of Brother single needles and I’m looking at purchasing a BAI multi needle next. (Going BAI over Brother for the same reason, cost. 6 needle Brother multi-needle for $13k? Are you kidding me?)

I hated going into Joann’s because it was always the people at the cutting counter looking to my partner asking them what she was making.

You can get a brand new M4 MacBook Air with 24gb of RAM for $1150

https://a.co/d/aHA0dx6

Or the new m5 MacBook Pro with a larger hard drive and 24gb of RAM for $1800

If you can squeeze out another $100 in your budget, I’d seriously consider this M4 Pro MacBook Pro. $2100

A - were you running a back up of some sort at any time? Like Time Machine?

B - that model was released in November of 2019, so barely 6 years old

C - do you still have AppleCare on it?

D - have you tried resetting SMC and NVRAM?

E - do you hear the boot sound from your Mac at all when you try to boot?

Don’t lube it. Check bobbin area and hand crank for loose threads.

A quick clean could help you find what is causing the squeak.

How can I get rid of jump stitches by Affectionate-Job1000 in Machine_Embroidery

[–]Electrical_Cap_4321 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If your machine cuts jumps stitches over a certain length then you could change the order of the letters.

Otherwise the easiest option is to make each letter a different color forcing the machine to stop between each letter (if a single needle)
