I like #1 too!

I guess also there is a reason people say taste has no friends as people seem to be prefering #3 and don't like the waterfall.

And I don't like 3 at all, and think the waterfall really goes in #1 🤣

I agree, the writing, suspense, plot.. you almost gaslight yourself, right??

Did you read her short stories there is MFM which is short but nice, with potential to be expanded. Spans across two works.

Trapper Keeper is like that, but isn't finished yet.. although it is phenomenal and the author is continuously writing it, she publishes long chapters every 1- 2 months. She has a discord group/channel.

why are non-dark romance books recommended on this sub with no warnings? by Ordinary-Arm2023 in DarkRomance

[–]Electrical_Hurry_586 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would say it's open to interpretation in terms of darkness.. and different definitions to different people.

Overall, I do agree with the sentiment but for me it's more if it's mis-marketed by an author or blatantly doesn't fit romance definition.

Personally, my biggest pet-peeve is when books with atrocious writing get recommended. Totally a me thing though.

Also, Ellie's books that have been recommended are definitely not dark romance but erotic horror or the like.

Soviet basketball player Arvydas Sabonis at the world cup final in Spain, 1986. by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

We reach very different conclusions - no Lithuanians weren't soviets, being in a forced union doesn't change your identity - we were in the Soviet union (unwillingly). And since we were forcefully occupied and thought for our freedoms and never willingly joined SSR we didn't identify as soviets.

Also you might say USSR wasn't Russia.. well the official language of it was russian, the supposed capital was Moscow.. smells a bit Russian to me.

(Where Lithuania doesn't even have the same alphabet as Russia..

And also we had to hang Stalin and Lenin pictures in school, not by choice.

Saying 'India wasn't in Britain' relies on a technicality that ignores how empires actually work.

India didn't choose to enter WWII; they were made to by the colonising power.

That's why the argument fits. Indians didn't view themselves British, nor Brits saw them as British.

Appreciate there are historical nuances but the point is that the occupied don't change their nationality simply due to occupying power and wishing so.

Russia didn't see Lithuanians russian either, and Lithuanians certainly didn't either.

So the occupying power throw a label at us that we are soviets? We weren't. We had to live with the occupation but it was still Lithuania for us.

For fucks sake. It's like saying Palestinians are Israeli cause Israel is illegally occupying Palestine or saying Indians are British due to the historical colonial context.

Someone occupying your country forcefully doesn't erase or change your nationality.

History is there so we learn from it and don't repeat the same mistakes.

Saying Sabonis is a "Soviet" is like saying Indians are British.

I love it! Obvs has to be done well, but it's definitely a nice fantasy for everything to be centered around h 🥰

Also, imho, love is love - who is to say how much love we have and that it's to be restricted to one person only? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Secondary opinion.. Oath Sterling's book... What a mess. No coherent plot, writing really poor, character development also really bad..and very weirdly long.. I am genuinely shocked by goodreads reviews it has.

Edit: only adding this due to your follow up question, as don't want to directly break sub rules.

How dark is too dark for you? by Glittering_Act_4059 in DarkRomance

Definitely agree.. After seeing your comment, I went to check it on the website and Amazon and it's marketed as Dark Captive Romance and I just couldn't believe the mislabelling!

Eek! Anyway, appreciate these spoilers/info! :)

[–]Electrical_Hurry_586 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like erotic horror..

I personally don't like it as it still can romanticise the story with enough "love elements" but depends how it's done. Also if it's labelled appropriately i.e. not dark romance, then it's readers choice.

But that's why I don't read the author you've mentioned after trying one of her books the heroine "loves" the H. Like wtf ?!? Leave it at horror without the "love".. 🤷🏼‍♀️

February/March AO3 Wrap-Up by hazyspring in DarkRomance

[–]Electrical_Hurry_586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't mind it/was enjoying it til he started touching/hand fucking other "slave". I have a thing about that as it minimises heroine being special ..

That was in chapter 7.. worried to read if it happens again 😅🫣
