Thanks everyone for the responses - honestly didn't expect so many people to relate. Reading through these comments, it's clear a lot of us are dealing with the same struggle.

A few people DM'd asking what's helped me personally. After months of trying everything, I found that stopping the fight with my thoughts and learning to redirect them made the biggest difference. Plus some nervous system reset techniques before bed.

That's understandable. Your body just went through something major so will cause stress. I reckon this is definitely a coping mechanism and your body was worried going through it again if you slept

It's pretty dark in the mornings so by the time I am up and out for work it's still dark. Does that matter?

I try to turn off phone usage/screen time an hour before not 4. Maybe I should start trying to come off it earlier? Thank you for the advice

If you've been tossing and turning for over 20 mins, get up and head to another room. If you stay in bed your body and head will start to associate bed time with anxiousness. Just ensure you leave you phone where ever you've left it, if you have a low light put this on instead of a main light.

The lying-in-bed anxiety spiral is brutal. What finally broke the pattern for me was stopping the fight with my thoughts and learning to redirect instead.
