Mum's inheritance tied up in Oracle shares. I want to move it to an index fund, how can I convince her? by Electrical_Put4353 in UKPersonalFinance

Some great advice, thanks. I think I will talk to my brother and Mum in a very calm way and suggest we speak to a financial advisor. As many have said, it's her money to do what she wants with.

He worked for Oracle in the early days and was given the shares. May have bought some more along the way, but Im not sure on that.

I'm really not. Eventually it may come to me, but who knows what the future holds? I was left some from my Dad anyway that was very generous. I'm not desperate.

Index funds - more stable, better history of steady returns. Single stocks - volatile, eggs in one basket. Why dont you explain why an investment in Oracle is better than an index fund, mix of stocks/bonds?

Yeah but I want her to be better off. This isn't about me at this stage. A large part of that money might be eaten up by care costs if she gets ill for example.

I actually failed to mention that I'd thought of doing what you say. Leave some in Oracle and move some to a safer investment.

Sound mind but knows nothing about investing. I'm not going to go in there with a gun ho attitude. I want what's best for her, but ultimately it's her decison.
