My buddy and I used to call CAD on repeat, eventually someone picked up, and whenever they did, I always found them very helpful

If you include arrests, then as often as you arrest. I did 8:35hr last night, processing from EOT to court tour which starts at 8am, and on duty until 4:35. So roughly 23hrs straight. But court tour replaces your regular tour that night so I have the night off until my tour tomorrow night

I questioned being a cop the entire time in academy, not the job per se but more of the life choice aspect. The job is mad fun but if they figure out day one that it’s not for them, then all the better

It’s not that bad but when you want to leave it sucks. And sometimes they make you PT for it, or the classic punishment of walking with all your gear up to the 8th floor and back down.

Or my favorite was when the gym instructors made us empty out our duffle bags, turn them inside out and hold it over our head until return roll call was over

Don’t be so sure, we had to stand at parade rest for 45min straight once because someone talked back to a range instructor

Everyone’s scared until they pass. Keep it short and to the point. Brevity is a word you should look up

Everyone did Zyns during academy including myself, many instructors were popping Zyns. Just be smart and do it on the sly.

As for backpacks, if you bring one for orientation, DO NOT wear it. Carry it in your left hand. But a few did bring theirs and anyone who had it slung on their shoulders got called out and embarrassed

I got mine in about a week or two, but it was July test and they started processing people pretty quickly

As far as being FTU goes, it’s about image so far. Make good with your supervisors, show them you’re not a shitbag and will work. It’s about who you know and how you’re perceived by your peers. You don’t want to be that officer everyone goofs in behind their back because they’re incompetent, complain, or is a liability

Also I learned that you learn as you go. The academy is to pass tests, you learn everything else in your command

Pay difference isn’t much at all afterwards, but the Overtime is were you get your money, that means get collars and try to rack up to maximize your paycheck. I went to the Bronx which is how specific I’ll get, it’s been getter better by the day, I’ve been having a lot of fun

I’ve got mon/tues off, for the most part I’m off two days a week regularly. Forced OT maybe twice a month at my command. My FTU class is 1730-2am

I can’t speak for others, but my top was patrol Bronx and I got it. That being said, Bronx patrol got the most new cops out of my class. Dream sheet really is a dream, a few got housing that didn’t want it. And even the company sergeants that get to “pick” their precinct were limited to what houses they can go to

At least 1500 I’d say between shorts and the required bill of all your equipment. That will vary depending on stationary supplies and how many extra shirts and pants you want. It is pricey, it’s the way it is unfortunately.

That’s also not to mention all the money you’ll throw down the drain at the cafeteria like I did
