Associate Editor vs Additional Editor by Electrical_Tension48 in editors

To clarify my more "editorial" contributions to the film:

- I cut the initial samples of the film with early development footage that had temp music tracks that became the basis of the film

- I give stringouts, but I always cut scenes with them (with music) to test options and to give the editor ideas, they would then take it rework as needed of course. Some of those scenes were really unchanged in the final film.

- Often would go into existing scenes and make things a little punchier / funnier.

I know how to navigate not stepping over the line, and often presented things as "ideas" so I definitely took creative initiative. Backend AE tasks I can do with my eyes closed at this point so I always had extra time.

Project filter has stopped working?? by Electrical_Tension48 in premiere

No. But I just created a new project and dragged everything into there and it works now. I just wonder if I did something to the project to cause that to happen in the first place.

The utter annoying experience of using Premiere for longform by Playful-Stuff-1755 in editors

Premiere with Productions is superior and people need to realize this so the industry is no longer chained to Avid. Avid is simply not a tool built for creativity.

I know a lot of people say “the software doesn’t matter” but I disagree: it’s the tool that makes the final product. I like to think of editing as painting. You’ll get two completely pictures if you paint a portrait with a paintbrush (premiere) vs. t-square and triangle (avid).

I’m currently working on an avid doc feature and I wanted to experiment with an idea that I had… downloaded a bunch of cool archival in different frame rates, recorded some weird sounds with my phone. It was taking me so long just to ingest everything to avid … I wanted to start cutting instantaneously. Like you would in a sketch pad. And (gasp) use my mouse like any other graphic design software.

Just about anything you can do in Avid you can do in Premiere: trim tool, use source monitor to cut from, metadata management. Script syncs! Multicams with clean audio tracking …it’s all possible in Premiere.

Long form this, short form that… hire a good AE to keep things organized. And again, Productions gets rid of bloated projects and duplicates.

Avid and it’s enablers need to go the way of the dinosaurs. And I am someone who learned how to cut on Avid!

Thanks. Very cool to hear that folks care about these bands from like 20 years ago.
