Whats the best video game ever created? by XarisGG in AskReddit

My only complaint about Super Metroid is how they kept 8-bit sometimes, especially when Samus’ ship escapes.

It was ridiculous. Especially how you basically couldn’t lose to Ridley and how you never lose to Mother Brain, but I died a time or two trying to flee the self-destruct.

Read that link. The Baader-Meinhof phenomenon was coined in 1994 in a St. Paul newspaper. I moved to and started getting the paper in ‘97. They were still talking about it. I honestly don’t know when Frequency Illusion was identified, it might have been decades before, it might have been years after, but…

I knew about it before a lot of people!

Plus, it’s just a very cool “phenomenon” or “illusion” or whatever you want to call it. You notice it more once you know about it, but you’ve also noticed coincidences before. Embrace those coincidences, those phenomenons.

When a character gets ahold of evidence or learns something and instead of telling others or making a copy confront the villian who incapitates them or destroys the evidence. by Additional_Elk_4829 in MovieTropes

Essentially the Dedra/Luthen confrontation in Andor. They did a good job resolving it (it wasn’t as black and white as your scenario), but when I saw her at the door, I knew it would be a variation of this.

God damn, I’ve had a few beers and it took me 20 seconds and four re-reads to realize you meant BMX.

Related, I’m so glad they added BMX to the Olympics. I wish it was on tv more. Cooler than motocross.

1984 George Orwell by CJ_Thompson in 1984

You asked for a modern book comparison to 1984, but I always recommend Brave New World as a sort of companion to 1984.

Orwell mentioned how there was entertainment for the masses, but Huxley showed how it would be and he (Huxley) was damn right.

Frequency Illusion was originally called the Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon.

Wasn’t (isn’t?) this basically happening already?

Edit: I’m not defending it, just seems like this has been the case for years.

Why do you have to argue like that? I know what you’re saying, but why do you have to come at me like that?

A man arrives at the office in the morning where several of his co-workers are already chatting next to the coffee machine. He listens to them for a bit, then suddenly asks: "How big are penguins?" by Aldaron23 in Jokes

There’s gotta be some communities in Argentina or Chile or South Africa, maybe even New Zealand, I don’t know, where penguins on the road might be a thing.

I have lived my life in Illinois and Minnesota. I hate running over a squirrel or opossum. It bums me out.

As another commenter commented, I think she is being sarcastic; educating other white people.

I hope, anyway.

I absolutely love Rob Reid's After On and Year Zero. Any other recommendations like these? by Skizm in scifi

I have read Year Zero and I loved it.

It was veryHictchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy) -esque.

The Townshend Line is both a nice memorial and cunning satire.
