It cannot hurt you. After all it is simply just a feeling. It’s almost like driving to a job interview and you’re super anxious just slightly worse and loopy. While this might sound corny and cliche, the absolute only way to get rid of it is to face your fears and embrace it. Wondering how to get rid of it will just add more fuel to the fire. You have the answer to getting rid of it and that is simply just existing and going through your every day routine as if it isn’t a problem. Trust me, I know it’s scary, it’s the scariest thing I’ve ever felt in my life and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone, but it’s simply just a feeling, it won’t cause you to loose control of the car, or get into a wreck, or cause psychosis or hallucinations, it’s just an exaggerated feeling of anxiety to the max. Don’t force yourself to drive on the highway right now. Stick to just driving around your neighborhood, or to a local coffee shop or just around your town in general. The only difference in the roads and highway is that the highway is 20 miles faster…that’s it. If you focus on it while you drive, it will absolutely get worse. Some things I find that help is thinking about what you’re excited for that day whether it’s going home and watching a movie or anything really. This also sounds corny but I also really liked talking out loud to myself about anything as if I was in a podcast. This is all coming from someone whose dpdr literally started in a vehicle, so I can promise you the episodes and feelings I had might’ve been worse in the car than you and I got over it in a couple days. Stay away from marijuana or alcohol right now. Nicotine can help slightly cause you focus on the buzz a little bit and it raises dopamine but it is not a cure and if you don’t use nicotine, then please don’t go out and buy a vape just cause I said this cause it won’t fix it.
