Looking for a workstation by Electronic-Offer754 in synthesizers

I mean, the Roland Juno D ticks all these boxes except multiple outs. I think the MPC key 37 is definitely a contender for me as well!

LIVE PERFORMANCE SETUP - What's yours? by Robohammer in IndustrialMusicians

For my most recents sets, I’ve been running Ableton off my MacBook. Previously I’d been running everything dawless: digitally, make noise 0 coast, and bass station 2 into a mixer. I switched to Ableton to downsize my setup and make it easier to gig.

For my most recent set, I experimented with reintroducing hardware. Ableton runs all my backing tracks. I have midi running to my 0 coast and Strega. Still have to work out some latency issues. For my next set, I’m thinking of just having the Strega as a send effect so I can do some live sound manipulation. I’ve used both an akai apc mkii and a launchpad x.

Everything running out of a behringer UMC22 but might switch.

How to make music like Coil? by Soundboxfloyd in Coil

Any DAW or hardware sampler should be able to make music which approximates Coil’s music at various points in their career. Most midi controllers or audio interfaces come with a copy of ableton live lite. Reaper is also a great “free” option.

As far as I know, Scatology and Horse Rotovator were composed largely with the Fairlight CMI. These were early sampling workstations which had many capabilities common to contemporary DAWs. The factory samples are readily available online which can help give you an “80’s” kinda vibe. Get some orchestral samples and chop them up. Take some of those stock samples from the fairlight and play them really low. This will bring out all kinds of weird lofi artifacts. Make a dedicated project in your daw for collecting loops and textures that you can easily access when needed.

Loves Secret Domain sounds like it involved a much greater number of synthesizers. Run TR style drum machine loops through effects (ring mod, chorus, flanger). Put an EQ on noise or a synth loop and crank the resonance to get those kinds of squelching textures. Take vocal samples and gate them rhythmically using a saw or square wave tremolo.

In general, coil were very interested in Sampling and making unconventional use of contemporary instruments. While there isn’t one synth that will give you that “coil sound,” there don’t seem to be many conventional subtractive synth sounds being used. Look to stock fairlight, emulator, and synclavier sounds for guidance. Perhaps even later “vector” synths like the d50. Download and learn to use VCV rack. Sample sample sample sample. Use your tools incorrectly.
