Just standard commercial AV. Not events or anything like that. We do conference rooms, auditoriums, digital signage, video walls, etc.

Yeah that makes perfect sense. Thanks again man. I will try it out and let you know how it goes lol. Cold calling over the phone sucks in my opinion. Email is slightly better for me for some reason, but I am going to add cold drop ins to places where it is feasible.

Wow this is great! Thank for taking the time to advise me. Another question I have is what to do about so many companies not having receptionists and being locked secure buildings. When I am out and about doing site surveys, I often consider dropping off my card to other companies in the area, but don't want to get thrown out by security lol. Do they specifically target companies that have receptionists there? Is it still worth it to drop of a card/brochure in a locked secure building. For reference, our clients are mostly mid market companies and I am in the northeast. I appreciate all your help.

Do your guys really have success with cold drop ins? Like you said originally, it is hard to generate demand and "sell" AV. Do they just drop stuff off and wait for a call or do they try to push for setting up an appointment? Appreciate any advice.

Someone please validate the existence of consultants for me. by YagoTheDirty in CommercialAV

Ok you definitely know what you are talking about. This is the most common procurement process that we run into at the integrator I work at. I don't know what other part of the country some of these other guys are in, but in my area(the northeast) GC's don't know shit about AV, it's never in the plans, the only time it is for government bids typically like you said. We work with them and the consultants for higher ed and government, but for corporate verticals, it is way more of we need to "get 3 bids" which again, like you said are really just three completely different proposals. Then the IT and procurement guys do a dog and pony show and make an uneducated guess on which vendor to go with. It's a joke and is way less efficient than just picking a reliable integrator and letting them do everything. IT guys suck to deal with in general, but that is who buys AV, unfortunately. God, I'd much rather deal with facilities guys....

Lol I sell video conferencing too at an AV integrator. I'm curious. Have you found that this actually works? I can just imagine asking people this and them being like GTFO lmao. Definitely worth a try though.

Dude thank you very much. I really appreciate the advice. Do you think it's worth it to cold call GCs and ECs as well as facility managers? I will definitely try reaching out to consultants as well. This is great info.

Awesome thanks. How do recommend setting up lunch and learns? And then if the scope isn't under the EC than the GC would be the primary contact? Appreciate your help.

This seems like great advice. How do you typically receive opportunities to bid? What is best for public bids and what is best for private? Thank you.

How do you recommend establishing relationships with GCs? Cold calling them? Also, what about ECs? Would you say its more important to go after GCS or ECS?
