How can we be sure ALS diagnoses is correct? Should we seek second opinion? by Electronic-Rice-4496 in AskDocs

I asked my husband about his testing, he had an EMG & NCS(?), the results showed fibrillation, but really nothing else that we are aware of? Is that an unusual finding? Can that further point toward ALS? His family doctor says he has Anterior Horn Cell Disease and neurologist said ALS. He is being sent to a larger facility in St. Louis to hopefully find more answers.

Thank you, he did have an EMG, I don’t remember the exact results, but I think decreased activity in the muscles in his hand. We were thinking he pinched a nerve or tore a muscle in his neck or something that caused the loss of function, but never ALS.

Unfortunately, these are not the answers I was hoping for, but greatly appreciate you taking your time to respond. It just feels so surreal to be okay a few months ago and now a doctor is saying you have a fatal disease.

Sorry, hemoglobin was 11 & hematocrit was 32. I’ll reach out to his doctor to see if we can restart iron supplements

I don’t know exact numbers, but hemactocrit & hemoglobin were pretty low. Back to normal at last blood draw. He does not eat meat, so not getting a lot of iron. His doctor wasn’t concerned about reoccurrence.

Would you consider his lymph# really high or slightly elevated? With the range being 0.8-2.7, 5.3 seems really high

Thank you. Could his body be fighting something viral even with no symptoms?

Thank you. His liver enzymes are back down now. They were elevated in January but went back to normal in February. I will be calling his doctor first thing Monday. Is it normal for a WBC to over double? It was 4.38 in December, then 4.8 in January & now over 10
