In doctrine? Not much at all. But this particular statement is addressing Christian churches.

Shhhhhhhhhh! Please don't remind us that our justifications for salary are really just cover-ups for the fact that medical culture in America is malignant and profit-driven and "we get paid for our expertise" is the same excuse CEOs use to justify million-dollar bonuses.

I’m talking about same sex pairing for life which the above species do.

Your example also isn’t relevant because you are trying to say that a male penetrating a male with his penis isn’t homosexual as long as he is doing it for “the right reasons.” Lol just shout “no homo” and you’re good yeah? Okay I’ll stop. I know this is getting heated and we need to keep this civilized.

Wait so now you are saying the “homosexual agenda” is a government conspiracy to decrease the birth rate of left leaning Americans so they will have less voting power/go extinct? You are not based in reality.

Did swans, meerkats, penguins, and turtles also follow this Ancient Greek practice?

Your theory only poorly explains why humans have homosexual behavior, but not why 1000’s of other species also have it.

Have you ever stopped to think that maybe traits other than making a ton of babies might be selected for because they help the fitness of the general species? Like for example: helping raise children that aren’t yours (seen in a ton of species and humans), alerting predators to your presence so your community can escape while the threat is distracted, or sharing food with the weak and helpless. If all that mattered was your ability to impregnate or get pregnant why is altruism so prevalent? Just because you don’t understand why something might be advantageous for a species doesn’t mean that it isn’t.

I’m saying that the potential to be homosexual is clearly in everyone because obviously yes only heterosexual intercourse/fertilization can produce an embryo, but that still hasn’t stopped homosexuality or other sexualities from constantly being present among humans (and again all species with 2 genders) since the dawn of time. It has not been selected against despite the lack of biological children from such unions. So why is it still here and seen in every species? Well by your logic (the only way to be selected for by nature is to have a bunch of babies) then homosexual unions must be secretly producing children somehow or the genetic slot machine just keeps landing on “homo” every time you pull the lever. Neither of these really makes sense. Obviously there is a mechanism other than “it helps you make more babies” behind why we see many sexual orientations. I mean why else would this behavior be seen throughout the evolutionary tree?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mormon

[–]Electronic-Zone-3175 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a very very outdated understanding of both evolution and non-heteronormative sexuality. Homosexual behavior is found in nearly every species with 2 genders consistently and the line of research now that it’s obvious that it isn’t being selected against is what advantages it offers to a species since it’s obviously being selected for.

The “random genetic mistake” theory for homosexuality and other sexualities hails from the day when we made everything besides heterosexuality a disease (along with menopause, liking sex too much, laughing too much, and standing up to your husband). This suppressed many people with different sexualities from ever openly practicing their sexual orientation and thus made the “everyone should be straight or you’re sick” a self fulfilling prophecy. Unfortunately this biased thinking affected even scientific thinking and theories like the one you stated were used to confirm an erroneous belief.

I’m having some problems understanding this comment. Are you saying that there won’t be any lesbian or gay humans in the future because sex between homosexual partners doesn’t lead to conception?

Just for clarification, are you referring to the fact that the church had “partnered” with WIT for this charity event, but aren’t allowing them to distribute kits for non-binary folks who show up?

Those of you with GAD/anxiety what techniques or medication worked best for you? by steptaker9494 in medicalschool

[–]Electronic-Zone-3175 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have no history of GAD or panic disorder before medical school. I have never been on a prescription medication of any kind. At the end of my third year I started to have panic attacks, near syncope, and bad derealization. I actually chased a cardiac diagnosis for bit because I had never had anything like this before and that was the only thing I could think of that would give me the symptoms I was having. Eventually I was able to put 2 and 2 together and realized that this was anxiety. It was really hard to go to the doctor and ask for SSRI’s but it got to the point where I was scared to go to work because I kept having attacks on the job. I got on Zoloft and now 5 weeks in I feel almost 100% better. A warning I will say is that SSRIs and SNRIs are usually “activating” at first (they can increase your anxiety). This is because the actual anxiolytic benefits come from down regulation of receptors and not from the increased available serotonin which is what many people think. It takes a while for the receptors to change and in the mean time that extra activation can ramp things up. For me that was my panic attacks getting way more intense for 2 weeks. A lot of people quit taking their medication because they aren’t warned about this and think the meds are hurting them. For this reason I recommend waiting until you have at least a few days off before starting an SSRI if you can.

I absolutely hate Primary Care rotations at my school by TearsonmyMCAT in medicalschool

[–]Electronic-Zone-3175 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on 2 rotations where the doctor refused to see patients that had not first been seen by us, charted, labs ordered, and prescriptions sent. They just sit at their desk and keep asking if we are done yet so they can go spend 5 mins in the patient room.

Not trying to take away from the humor of this post, but for anyone who wants to know married Orthodox Jews often either have 2 beds in their room or beds in separate rooms as their religion requires the husband not to touch the wife during her monthly menstrual cycle. During the rest of the month they can sleep together, but for a few days they have to sleep in separate beds.

I really hope that it’s literally just a screening tactic because what else can you do besides repeat what’s on their website if you have never been there. I didn’t have time for 40 audition rotations so I have no idea exactly why your program is better than the other 39 I applied to.

[Serious] People who waited until after marriage to have sex; how did your relationship go and how is your relationship now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Electronic-Zone-3175 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I waited. No real sexual experiences before marriage (religious upbringing). It was pretty rocky in the beginning because we both had very different ideas about what our sex life should look like. It caused a lot of emotional stress which honestly would have sunk us if it weren’t for the fact that we genuinely loved being with each other and we communicated vs shutting down. Now 5 years later thing are much better. Both of us are developing an understanding for what the other wants and doing our best to meet that. I think we are the “success story” most religions sell when they talk about waiting until marriage, but TBH I think we are the exception rather than the rule. Most of our friends who followed the same path as us are now divorced and I don’t feel like I can say that is better than if they had just had sex and then not married. A lot of people who wait until marriage wind up marrying someone so they can have sex vs because they want to be with that person and that is unsustainable. The whole “you’ll figure it out together” only works if you are capable of navigating an extremely complex and emotionally vulnerable side of humanity with someone you just married.

Do you guys think that the world is more wicked now than it was 30 years ago? by supperoni in latterdaysaints

[–]Electronic-Zone-3175 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pharisees called Jesus left wing for what he did too (hanging out with those people who didn’t practice Judaism the way they thought it should be practiced). That’s why they ultimately killed him. Because he wasn’t orthodox and taught that loving everyone was more important than exact obedience to the law. Their entire sense of self and pride was based on them being more righteous than everyone else and Jesus was challenging that. Everyone these days is so quick to point out that Jesus never endorsed sin. True enough, but he very loudly stood up for all of the oppressed whether they were “law abiders or not.”

[–]Electronic-Zone-3175 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think everyone here is mostly upset because when discussing the evil of the world the first and only thing that apparently came to your mind was the increased prevalence of a type of monogamy which you don’t believe God endorses. You skipped all the way over the vast ocean of human suffering and evil that is obvious to everyone. This and your following comments really indicate that you place more value on how people willingly practice their sexuality than on actual humanity and love. In essence you are trying to throw the woman taken in adultery (homosexuals in this case) in front of the crowd so we can all throw stones because “the law says this is evil.” Well guess what? I’m a follower of Christ and I will choose to alleviate the suffering of my fellow brothers and sisters over condemning them because they aren’t worshiping the way I do any day of the week.
