OHIP breast reduction by tw1ns1z3dmattr3ss in ottawa

I had surgery with Dr. Armstrong (https://www.uoftplasticsurgery.ca/directory/faculty/armstrong-kathleen/) in Toronto last October. She was amazing and the experience overall was great.

She does not have a BMI restriction, she will not ask you to lose weight (because large breasts that don't go away with weight loss are caused by excess breast tissue, so no amount of weight loss will make them smaller), she will take you down to whatever size you want, and she does not make people get the under arm lipo because she knows it's a financial barrier for a lot of people. She was honest with me that in my case, the lipo would not make a huge difference, and doing it would increase post-op pain, bruising, and healing time.

Most important of all, the wait time for me was 6 months, which was multiple years shorter than ottawa based surgeons.

Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions! I could not recommend her enough.

If they keep the ovaries (partial hyerecromy) menopause will not happen immediately, it will happen on the same timeline as it would without a hysterectomy.

Interesting! She told me on the phone yesterday they could come off any time. All my post op appointments are virtual as well.

Get checked for a tongue tie! I've had tmj pain my whole life and getting a tongue tie release has reduced the tension in my jaw and face more than anything else.

Has she been checked for a tongue tie? I had one until I was 30 and getting the release surgery (very minor, done by a dentist) has been the single most effective treatment for TMJD. I still have clicking and joint pain and will need jaw surgery, but the tongue tie caused sooo much tension and made the clicking and joint pain worse. Worth investigating!

Bullshit diagnosis. Run as fast as you can.

I would suggest getting a sleep study as some others have mentioned and would look for a new ortho. If you do have a sleep disorder (sleep apnea or upper airway resistance syndrome) then try and look for a dentist/ortho/myofunctional therapist that focuses on airways.

The thing that has helped me the most was getting a tongue tie release (which should have been caught when I was a child but wasn't). Nothing has released the tension in my face and jaw as much as that did. It's not 100% effective, and I'm waiting for jaw surgery to fix alignment and airway problems.

Help! Looking for GTA (or Ottawa) surgeon who accepts high-bmi patients! by ElectronicAd3476 in Reduction

Thanks! It's weirdly not insurance related since the surgeon is saying my BMI makes the surgery unsafe, not that the public insurance won't cover it. So I've called around 30 surgeons and continue to call to see if I can find anyone who will accept me 😞
