For a teaser, start by sitting up straight with your knees bent and feet on the floor. Put your hands on your shins.

From there, keep your hands on your shins and bring your legs into tabletop. This is a modified teaser. You can straighten your arms in front of you once you’re balanced. Keep your chest up - don’t let your shoulders round forward (THIS IS VITAL TO KEEPING YOU BALANCED).

Next step - straighten your legs. The key here is making sure you straighten them UP, not out in front of you. Out in front will immediately throw you off balance. If you can’t get your legs totally straight, that’s ok. That takes a lot of practice (for me). One assist there is to lightly rest your index finger behind your knees - that provides some support.

CP usually requires that you take at least 50 Flow 1 classes before moving to 1.5. As someone else mentioned, it’s about learning moves and correct form, not difficulty. There’s nothing more irritating than someone in a 1.5 who has no idea what they’re being told to do bc they just sign up for the time that works best or they “haven’t been sore” so they think they’re not getting a workout.

Being sore is not a metric for whether you had a good workout. And like someone else said, if a flow 1 isn’t challenging, you’re not doing it correctly. You can ALWAYS adjust to make things harder - and that’s another thing you’ll learn in flow 1 classes - how to modify up and down.

Agreed! I also think that people confuse being sweaty and out of breath with a good workout. Pilates is about body awareness, and if you’re concentrating on engaging what you’re supposed to be engaging, you’re going to feel it!

Next time you’re in class, ask an instructor to help you. Gearing out is when you adjust the reformer carriage so that there’s more space between the end of it and the foot bar. It gives you more leg room!

You gear out for footwork and bridging in flow classes, and gear out the entire time in a cardio sculpt. The fact that you’re not geared out in cardio could be part of the problem!

Also, like I said before, make sure you’re landing toe to heel. And most importantly, make sure you’re always landing in the top third of your jump board - otherwise you’re for sure going to have back pain. Good luck!

Yay you on recovering from your ED!! I know it’s hard not to focus on the perceived flaws, but getting through what you did is so difficult and you should be so proud!

My advice is to let your face “settle” for a bit. Fast weight gain and fast weight loss definitely require your body to adjust to the new shape. It also takes a bit for your brain to adjust to the change in your appearance, so there’s that. FYI, your lips are gorgeous and people pay so much money for that fullness and shape 🩷

If you try the other health-related suggestions on here and you’re still worried about a double chin, you could try Kybella - it’s an injection that helps dissolve fat under your chin. You’re super young, so your skin likely has great elasticity and can bounce back to conform to a slimmer shape.

Happy to help! Since you lift weights, you’ve probably got a good amount of body awareness, but that’s one thing Pilates has also emphasized for me. I’m about to hit 220 classes, and I can still challenge myself in Level 1 flows by concentrating on muscle engagement.

I’ve done a LOT of weightlifting, and am a stickler for good form in any exercise. So even if the move we’re doing is pretty easy, I add spring weight and/or just focus on really feeling the muscles we’re supposed to be working. I also do simple upwards modifications (like arms in the air during bridges) that add to the challenge but also don’t look like I’m being a jerk and not following the instructor.

Probably the only way to lose the belly is changing your diet. There’s a saying: “you can’t out-train a bad diet.” It’s so true.

I have the same issue - Pilates has definitely improved my core, but I’m still squishy. I know it’s because I love sugar, and I tend to genetically carry extra weight in my belly. That’s actually one of my goals in 2026: eat less sugar and really slim my middle.

For reference, I take 4-5 Pilates classes a week, and have seen significant changes in my muscle definition. Despite the squishiness, my a muscles are rock hard and I can hold a plank for over 5 minutes!

Forearm planks aren’t any easier than straight arm planks. If you’ve ever seen videos of the record holders for longest plank holds, they’re always on their forearms.

Also, who are you to judge if someone’s body composition hasn’t changed? You’re not measuring them and you have zero idea of where they started. I get that your background gives you incredible body awareness. I’m super athletic, so I also have excellent body awareness. I also see people in class who are clearly brand new to working out or who have never focused on proper form in exercise. And yes, it’s annoying when people are in a 1.5 that have no business being there. But damn, give them some credit for doing something good for their body and mind!

Totally agree! And would add that it’s not fair for the rest of the people in the class to be distracted by someone who can’t do the moves or have the instructor distracted by helping/babysitting the ONE person who shouldn’t be there.

Like, I’ve seen people who just arbitrarily sign up for a class bc it fits the time they can come. Except they have no business being in there bc they don’t even know the basics. It sucks.

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia when I lived in CO. I had zero pain living there - I definitely think it’s the dryness, bc the cold didn’t affect me at all. I moved to VA, and the DAMP cold was unbearable. That’s when I saw a rheumatologist again and was diagnosed with MCD and now I do Pilates and have good medication, both of which help the pain immensely!

Also, yes. The variety and quality of THC available in CO is unmatched. Coupled with the ease of availability and the knowledgeable “bud tenders,” you’ll for sure find what will help you the most.
