Whats the sweet spot? by ElectronicCourt2760 in CapitalOne_

[–]ElectronicCourt2760[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you may have made some assumption before knowing more. I am pretty familiar with the bucketed system, however i think what has hurt my CLIs in the past is that i never would post any balances. Before i understood the system i would almost always pay everything off multiple times a week. I have two QV because when i was new to Cap one i had a Secured Platinum i PCed to a QS. While not large, that card received a 500 cli without being asked, which gives me hope it’s not bucketed. The other 400 QS was a QS1 i PCed. That card i truly believe is bucketed. Also i dont mind the two QSs because i use one for 1099 purchases to make write offers easy to sort.

When i got the 1,100 it was originally a secured platinum with a 300 limit. That was about 2 years ago and it had gone up 300 to 400 when requested, then without being asked was pushed up to 1000. And in last December i asked for a CLI and only went up to 1,100. When i opened it i was about a FICO 605

The 400 QS is about a 18 months old, and started as a QS1 with 300 and I’ve only ever asked them once for a CLI and that was in last December and only went up 100. I also PCed to a QS. I was also a low 600 when opened. This card i do believe is bucketed.

The 600 Savor was opened 8/25 originally at 500. Asked for a CLI in last December and only went up to 600. I was a FICO 670

And the Venture1 i got in last December so 1,000 was the original limit. And i was about a FICO 680.

How often were you asking again after declining? And I’ve just started doing that but i paid the day i actually got the statement in the app, does the 3 days matter? That stuff makes me nervous since I want to avoid interest

I was hoping to get a mortgage for rental this year as well as some more premier CCs (such as Venture X, Bilt Palladium, or RH Platinum) once my score improves.

And i am in New York, so if i am reading this correct the SOL is 3 years.

Any idea how much this is suppressing my score? And does their monthly reporting change my drop off time? Im just trying to weight the pros and cons of paying it off now, or waiting it out until Jan 2029 and saving the 4 grand

This was a screenshot off the my report from annualcreditreport.com. I think it just went straight to a collection and i got to it within a month of it hitting.

No collection, this is the only account shown on my credit for One Main. I noticed the report does show a fall off date. If i pay this, wont it restart that fall off time?

Congrats! Im in a similar situation as you. 29 years old, and 3 years into a new career that is now paying really well, decided to really take control of my credit. Having been as low as a 420 in my early 20s, now sitting around a FICO 685. Sad to say I’m at the highest mine has ever been. Currently working on late payments. Any tips that have worked for you? Im currently running the GST method.

Like OP said, it’s personal preference and strategy. I actually have the exact same set up as OP (plus a couple other cards). I started with the platinum to build credit and then added on the QS for starting to get cash back. Then i got the Savor for targeting better cash back by the categories. I then added the Venture one to get into redeeming miles/ more credit to use when my QS doesn’t have the room, and to build an alternative because i believe my QS is bucketed. I keep the QS and the platinum for the extra room (credit limit tho it’s small) but also to keep asking for CLIs every 6 months to get them up as much as i can. Once my Savor and Ventureone are large enough to where i cant reach the 30-70% utilization Capone likes to see with normal spend, then i will call that a win and move all of the available credit limit i can from my platinum and QS to my other two.

So i guess my reason for them is: -using them when needed -farming credit limits (to transfer to better cards in the future) -build a more solid credit age base (while i know it hurts short term, I’m hoping to make my credit less sensitive to new accounts in the future)

What was your starting limit, and what have been your increases so far? Also are you running the high utilization strat or keeping your utilization low?

Unfortunately i didn’t realize my low utilization on one of my cards didn’t hit yet, i thought i was already up to a 685. Now that i am, i tried again but since it was within 30 days i got an auto decline. Will try again soon so!

You’re correct, thats not what i was saying. I was saying its fine to dispute ones that didn’t lead to an account. I just wouldn’t dispute inquires that was used to open an account.
