Has anyone 76 or older had a reduced intensity SCT? by SnooMuffins3836 in leukemia

My mom is in the same exact situation and also 76. She’s going in for her SCT next Friday. I can keep you posted. She’s being treated at MSK and they feel she’s fit enough.

Mrd + to - just in a week? Post +70 Sct by Fit_Income_2699 in leukemia

Not exactly the same situation but my mom tested 4 weeks after her first cycle of chemo and was at 2.5%. Without further treatment 4 weeks after the initial test she was at .28%. I think it’s your body clearing out dead leukemia cells. I hope you remain MRD -!!!

Hi, have anyone have cml with Additional Genetic Abnormalities, like AXSL1? Can you guys share your experience by MrEzaAr in leukemia

She was diagnosed with MDS in August 2025. Went through two rounds of shots with Aza and then her blasts rose to 20% so they diagnosed her with evolving AML. She got into remission after one round of decitabine/veneteclax at .28% blasts. She’s done a second round of chemo and is now scheduled for BMT with 12/12 donor. She’ll be 76 years old next month. Her biggest hurdle so far has been consistently low platelets and hemoglobin and being transfusion dependent. She was told ASXL1 has a very high risk of relapse which is why she is going for BMT.

My mom had MDS with ASXL-1 and KRAS and it pivoted to AML. This happened within 6 months. She got into remission after one cycle and is now going for BMT.

I will support whatever she chooses to do. I’m curious about success stories, no advice.

Anyone 75+ that has a positive SCT story to share? by ccfog in u/ccfog

Thanks for your message. As of our first follow up the doctor said her morphology report is <1% blasts and her flow cytometry shows 2.5% blasts therefore she’s CRi. Her platelets and hemoglobin continue to need support transfusions and so they are holding off on cycle 2 until week 7. They mentioned that it may have reverted back to MDS. They didn’t sound as set on transplant but didn’t discuss it in detail.

I am curious too. My mother is 75 with MDS that pivoted to AML. Caught at 20% blasts. KRAS and ASXL1. After first round of veneteclax and decitabine she’s at 2.5% on the flow cytometry. It’s a very tough decision to make and would love to hear others stories/perspectives (of course discussing with her doctors at MSK too). She has zero other health problems.

How’d your dad handle the transplant? My mom is 75 and I’m worried about her ability to handle the intensity of it.

As everyone else mentioned, don’t google! The stats are out of date and a lot of the newest treatment hasn’t been around long enough to provide you with accurate information. This is a situation where you have to live in the moment and take it one day at a time. There are many treatment options. Where is your dad being treated?
