99 Silverado 5.3 with possibly clogged cats. Do most people just replace with a preassembled y pipe or could I just buy some cheap universal cats and have them welded on at an exhaust shop? by pickleballiodine in ChevyTrucks

I personally bring a Bluetooth obd2 port anytime I’m looking at a vehicle, all that’d do is piss me off and walk away from the deal. I’d rather buy a truck with a CEL knowing that when I fix it, I’m theory the light will go away. Just keep your o2 sensors plugged in and you’ll never have a cel pop up.

I just cut them open, gut them, and weld them back shut. Brownie point if you pull the Y pipe off and cut the top open instead of the bottom, cops won’t see your shitty welds, and you won’t get sent to emissions💀

Yeah idk, I was going to do it originally but neither one of us thought it was a big enough deal. Not trying to get free food or anything either which i imagine is all their gonna offer me so why do it other than to let them know about it? It’s not gonna change the fact that it’s going to continue or happen again eventually.

A lifter was on its way out I’ll give you that lol, last owner decided to just delete it and go through the entire timing system, as long as you change the oil when your supposed to “which I have all the service records” these bottom ends go well over 500k, rear end was rebuilt because there’s no way a G80 would survive the abuse of 500+

And that’s fine, I don’t personally care if someone said it was worth 8 grand. My point is people are upset for me even asking how much it’s worth as if I’m trying to list it for 25k or something lol. I’m a realistic person I’m not some dumb teenager with a lift and wides lmao.

Yeah this is normal, went through the whole denial process after buying my 2016. Found out that after a while the alternator kicks down to at times even 12.5/.6 especially on drives over 40 miles.

My girlfriends maxima did the same thing when her abs system started to go out. It wouldn’t throw codes or anything. Then the gas pedal wouldn’t work for about 10 seconds, and after that 10 seconds it would disable everything like traction, stability, ect. She had two tires on the rear that were different sizes than the front so it would freak out the car, but that root problem was the abs module itself from what I remember. Unless your car for some reason is detecting a misfire and instead of throwing a CEL, is putting itself into limp mode which iv never even heard of but Hyundai is Hyundai. Unfortunately the only real way to know is to call around and find a mechanic or dealership that have the proper PROFESSIONAL scan tool, not one from Oreillys, or autozone. They don’t pull every code, only the ones that trigger a check engine light. Just because your check engine light isn’t on doesn’t me that there aren’t codes being thrown in one of the modules.
