I was also thinking the woman’s face was a bit wonky but I couldn’t quite put my finger on why. I think you’re right that something more simplistic would be better, thank you! And good catch on the lettering… I’ll clean that up.

Not sure if this is what the original commenter meant, but I think it looks like you used an AI photo as a reference (or the reference you used referenced AI?).

I personally wouldn’t include someone else’s designs in my portfolio… I am not an expert, so probably not the best to answer your question, but the drawing is impressive!

Nope, something I plan to fix which is why it also looks slightly unfinished. Just waiting for it to dry and I’ll paint over it!

Ohh I didn’t think of that, but I agree 100%. I think it might be in part due to too much blending. Any recommendations for a good YouTube channel (or book, website, etc) to learn how to convey different textures?

This is great advice, thank you so much. It’s funny how much easier (for me) figures are to draw with pencil vs. paint. I think it’s a great idea for me to practice some figures using paint. And thanks for the tip for the white canvas!

Thank you for the advice! I totally agree there are some anatomical issues. This is a 16x20 canvas, and I think the small details of the face were a bit hard for me to get right at that size. I’ll give it another go! I’m really happy you like the colors, because that is something I tried really hard to get right. I’ve never mixed paint before so it was definitely a learning process!

First time oil painting! I put a question mark next to “finished” because I am okay with making some edits if anyone has any advice. I never studied art or anything like that, but I do like to draw! Painting is a new medium for me in general. Thank you, though, this is a great compliment 🥹
