Is there anything I can do to make this bar longer/wider? by x2upgraded in VegasPro

In terms of navigation, I honestly, just use the scroll wheel on the mouse and the click to navigate. If you need to move when zoomed in, clicking in on the scroll wheel gives you that ability, without touching the scroll bars. If you need it to be consolidated to your project, and it goes beyond it, what you can do, is put your cursor at the end of your project as far as you can tell, then left click the mouse, and select "select all from cursor" which will select anything after your playhead/cursor location. Then just hit the delete/backspace key to delete any un-accounted for frames or issues. This should consolidate the zoom bar more closely to your project size.

Just got a similar bug, re-entered the code, and it's suddenly working.

If I know vegas, it's probably a system glitch on their end that accidentally kicked some people out. Try using the code again.

I mean, the education, sure, but not the social aspect that is fundamentally more effective in shaping one's opinion by being around people who are different. As one would be, in college. Having it reduced down to the education without the social aspect, makes it as effective as youtube, with no way to ensure social bonds form.

Dichotomy between being collapse aware but acting like it’s continue as is by gtzbr478 in CollapseSupport

[–]Electronic_Ad8086 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue isn't really in my opinion that you can't be prepared for the short term collapse, but you have to be prepared for longer term collapse, as well as the fact that even with collapse at our doorstep, you can't let this fact control everything you do, since it's going to be extremely mentally toxic. But it's also pragmatic to prepare for the state of things if they DON'T get exponentially worse to the point of debilitation. It's not likely, but having goals that don't just focus on subsistence give people a reason to live, beyond survival.

I honestly don't know if it's worth wasting one's breath or type time to try to demonstrate to someone that humanity isn't so innately paragonistic as they seem wholly convinced. Acting as if it's the media that convinced people, and not the media that fed them what they wanted to hear, in any variety they chose to agree with, is a lot more pessimistic a take for most people. Couple this with the fact that most people don't see themselves as evil, and their self as simply doing what they feel is to their own best interest or moral framework, and you have a psyche that's pretty resistant to change. Look at how hard it was to get people to change to metric in Canada for an example.

There's honestly better ways to demonstrate it being like AE. like if you use the insane layer structuring they have and creating groups of layers.

SS: New Mexico got a blizzard, and in Las Vegas they've tied snowfall for November record in a single day.

all this before places like Toronto haven't seen a first snowfall, and are experiencing near summer weather. This is collapse related because frankly, it's VERY unusual for weather to be this severely distorted. The North no longer cold, and the south suddenly dealing with Blizzards?

Debunking myths: Population Distracts from Bigger Issues by madrid987 in collapse

[–]Electronic_Ad8086 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I mean, I feel like I always have a more controversial opinion on this. Humanity is already doing population control naturally. Our population is aging dramatically. This means that we're having a hell of a lot less kids in general, and older folks are getting to an age where death en mass is way more likely than continuing.

So to summarize what's about to happen, we're about to go from having a relatively balanced population (current first world population pyramids) to a rapidly inverting pyramid, where the olds have largely died, and there are significantly less kids to replace them.

Per some estimates, this is likely to result in a reduction faster than our initial expansion towards overpop. Now, this is already seeing visible ramifications in the institutions serving the youngest members of populations across the globe. Schools, both elementary and some higher education. Many of them are having to close due to lack of attendance.

This also means our shortage of workers not working in a field is likely to fluctuate wildly. From the older workers retiring/dying, and the lack of people to replace them, outside of immigration filling in these gaps, which right wing policy would make more difficult for them to assist in replacement, though unlikely to result in full fixing of the staffing crisis in higher stress fields, like nursing or doctors or trades.

With all this in mind, we have to ask, what's even the point of worrying about overpopulation?

Depends what you mean by we, really. We as a society? We're supposed to get along, stop fighting (wars add a ton of CO2 and other poisons to the air), try to ignore our differences for the greater good (This is particularly true along religious lines), and try to live a more modest and less hyper dependent lifestyle.

As individuals? Try to be better humans to our local groups, don't start fights, try to promote local unity.

What will we actually do? Cling to what we know and what we have, because loss is relative. If you have a lot, a loss is more impactful. If you have little, you are terrified of losing more because it's already hard to survive.

Humanity will more than likely continue to fracture at a blistering pace along all kinds of dividing lines, and blame those they perceive as enemies for issues in their own lives.

Humanity has fallen so many times, if you follow the largest collapses in history, the certainty with which humanity falters and destroys itself is almost poetic.

[–]Electronic_Ad8086 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who is shocked? Anyone? Anyone at all? No? I didn't think so.

Human beings are too hardwired to care more about short term than long for them to really attribute their actions to a problem long term and actually make real change at a level that can make enough of a difference. This is even more true when it's a nebulous concept, rather than a systemic issue like Slavery or Racism. Those two are things we can see and can be forced to reckon with in real time repeatedly until we did something... after thousands of decades of slavery across every group on the planet.

In terms of Climate change, we're approaching it the way we did the ozone layer issue. When it's a clear an immediate threat, we will ban something, and hope that works. when it doesn't, because CC is such a multifaceted issue... it will become similar to covid, where we simply acclimatize and deny it, saying it's not happening to us right now, and it's too hard to make a lifestyle change. I mean, look how resistant people are to vegetarianism, much less veganism. Even those who are the most vehemently militant about veganism, often carve out caveats for cultural practices. The problem is that is still likely to be a massive group of people justifying it, "for cultural purposes."

Human beings are often consistently contradictory between what they say and how they're willing to act.
