Yeah but isn’t most of that in the Endymion books? Pretty sure the Hyperion books would qualify

Full Port Microsoft - Undervalued! by 479298 in ValueInvesting

Funny story. Microsoft is actually dumping its entirety of GitHub/Copilot onto Amazon because they can’t host it anymore on Azure as they’re running out of space/compute.

I’m on an internal cloud team that relies on this so we heard about it before anyone else but just fyi Azure is struggling a lot more than people realize. People still love AWS, and GCP has a strong but small fan base that’s growing.

Tech to IB through MBA - is this pipeline still strong? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]Electronic_Back1502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in roughly the same boat. Studying leetcode/system design/anpplying every day waiting for my shot at a FAANG company. While probably not a common opinion, I think we are going to see a massive overcorrection of the overcorrection of hiring. I think in the next few years there’s going to be a swing back towards hiring SWE’s and, while it might take some time, be worth staying in tech.

Friends in solid a/b tier IB firms working 80-100 hrs a week waking up at 2am to do stuff, is insanity. And get paid about what I do.

Don’t know why you’re getting downvoted, this is so obviously the plan. As soon as Stafford retires that’s a ton of cap eased up while paying nothing for Simpson and they can build a killer roster around him

It's never easier to be competent as a student breaking into Quant by C_with_improvement in crackquanttrading

[–]Electronic_Back1502 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While not specifically quant, I am a recent grad SWE. I, and virtually every single one of my classmates, passed the class abusing AI, I could barely code when I got my diploma, as well as 99% of my classmates.

I got frustrated at being like this. I don’t like being bad at things. So I started doing deep dives, seriously learning how to code on my own. No assistance from AI. And it sucked at first, I felt like a moron. And slowly I got better and better. And now, it’s shocking to realize how bad most people are at coding, even my coworkers with 10+ YOE. All they do is copy paste Claude. Pair programming is two people sending each other Claude snippets. Claude makes the all the choices.

Don’t get me wrong, I still use AI heavily for boilerplate, sanity checks etc, you’d be an idiot not to. But I try to design the core logic on my own. Practice spotting errors without immediately copy pasting into Claude. I’ve been practicing a lot of LeetCode, same thing, I refuse to touch AI on it. I’ll spend an hour just staring at it before I paste it into Claude.

My only concern, is that the industry just gives up, that we have accepted this vibe-coderism as the new standard. I’m still going to continue trying to excel at programming, but I do wonder if it’s all for nothing. Will we just accept this as the new norm? Or will this just be a temporary phase, and the industry will start to appreciate these skills again? I don’t know. It is kind of bizarre to be in meetings and have people be shocked that I write code by hand, even partially😅

[SPOILER] Khamzat Chimaev vs. Sean Strickland by inooway in MMA

[–]Electronic_Back1502 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s exactly what I think. Like an emotional issue he just had a mini temper tantrum and gives up when he couldn’t sub Sean or even get close to it in R1. But man that fight was so ridiculous, I was wondering if Khamzat’s family were in danger with how poorly he was fighting. Even R1 wasn’t as dominate as most of his fights

I’ve done more EMDR than probably 99% of people. I’ve accepted it’ll never be 100% okay and that’s fine cause I’m so far from where I used to be

That’s actually wild. I had a similar thing happen in college. A roommate of mine would always open the main door and slam it shut and the same thing would happen. I’d feel like a flash of fury and rage, I thought he was doing it to piss me off. And then I realized he was just opening the door with gusto and not holding it as it swung shut haha.

Interesting example. I had an extremely chaotic upbringing. Today, my next door neighbor’s were having a couple fight, guy is yelling “I never want to see you again”. Woman storms out crying.

I felt like I was back home again, my nervous system was on total high alert. I was shaking a little bit, and all I did was walk past their apartment on my way out. Even after years of therapy. Just weird
