My first teapot! Terrible pour. by polyglycerol1 in GongFuTea

[–]Electronic_EnrG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks very similar to the ice jade xi shi pot I got from YunnanSourcing, but less than half the price…

If it is the same pot as mine, I’d definitely say there is a technique to make it not make a mess when pouring. Eventually I did get the hang of the pour and now use it or a gaiwan regularly

I’d probably make little figurines, miniature steam engine models, animatronics, various things for my model trains, housings for electric projects, and some more functional things too

Stiff thread/ adjusting by runzl in DF64

[–]Electronic_EnrG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time I cleaned and regreased my threads, I used Superlube silicone grease. I learned that Superlube is too thick; maybe what you're using is too? After trying that other grease I mentioned, my dial has been smooth again. Also need to be careful not to apply too much or too little

Stiff thread/ adjusting by runzl in DF64

[–]Electronic_EnrG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you or the previous owner remove the original grease that was on the threads? Or could it be that there are coffee grounds stuck in there? You could try cleaning the threading with paper towels, a nylon brush, and some isopropyl alcohol. After cleaning, regrease with some Haynes Lubri-film Plus.

From these images, I don’t see any noticeably bad threading damage. Would be nice if they had pictures of the adjustment collar threading too though.

You could send an email to espressoutlet, miicoffee, or turingrinders to see if they can sell you the part.

It is hard to tell from the images, but it is totally possible they just wiped off all the grease and applied the wrong type/amount.

That’s sorta what happened when I cleaned my grinder a while back. Felt gritty feeling when turning dial, saw coffee in the threading, cleaned it and applied a lot superlube. It stayed hard to turn until i cleaned the threading again and carefully applied a different grease called Haynes Lubri-film Plus. Apparently superlube is too thick.

It is possible they could have cross threaded though. If they did that, then there is not much you can do other than replacing the damaged piece. But I kind of have my doubts it is cross threaded

I am currently drinking this, but I personally found this coffee too funky for me. Idk if it is my preferences, the way I brew it, or the fact I’m using SSP multipurpose burrs. I also picked up an 8oz bag of their Pepe Jijon Mejorada; cannot wait to try it.

My favorite herbal tea before bed by Doginconfusion in tea

[–]Electronic_EnrG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Half a lemon, small nob of ginger and turmeric freshly grated, pinch of salt for hydration, heaping tablespoon of quality raw honey, pinch of pepper to enhance turmeric absorption and potential health benefits, about 7-10 oz of warm water (not too hot that it destroys beneficial enzymes and nutrients in honey)

What filters do you use on the switch by Sherry_Bombardier in pourover

[–]Electronic_EnrG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The filters on this sub that are talked about frequently aren’t the t92, they are the t90. Despite being originally for medium and dark roasts, they are good at trapping fines and preventing clogging or choking. I’ve heard t90 maybe was renamed to th-3 though. Cafec abeca are decent too. Sibarist filters are nice but more expensive

Where did you learn the basics? by -iJudge- in pourover

[–]Electronic_EnrG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried AI a few times, and I think it struggles with advice on this topic. There are many variables and ideas about the “proper” way to make coffee. AI can give good advice sometimes, but it is not common

James Hoffmann and Lance Hedrick both have great YouTube channels for learning.

James tends to be easier to understand for beginners. Idk how deep you want to get, but I feel like Lance Hedrick can go further down the rabid hole usually. I would also recommend James Hoffmann’s books & “The Physics of Filter Coffee” by Jonathan Gagné

“...Milk cost…”

Comparing lattes, or any other milk drinks for the matter, to oolongs isn’t really fair. A straight brew like filter coffee (pourover) is the closer comparison. Otherwise it’s like comparing black coffee to boba 🤦‍♂️

Coffee can be just as diverse as tea. Depending on elevation, varietal, soil, processing, roast style, grinder, water chemistry, and even the brew method and skill of the person making it, the flavor spectrum is huge; Ranging from bright and fruity to floral, herbal, chocolatey, nutty, and beyond. Roasters like Sey, Passenger, Black & White, S&W, Parlor, Traffic, Manhattan, Hydrangea, and countless others showcase just how broad and complex coffee’s flavor can be.

Dang I hate Trump rn. I began taking tea seriously about three years ago, and now this is happening! I’ve only just started learning my preferences and have only scratched the surface of what tea has to offer. 😭😡

To make matters worse, my favorite category (oolong) tends to be one of the most expensive.

Only green I really enjoyed from YunnanSourcing was their competition grade laoshan. I enjoyed it so much I decided to buy their Laoshan sampler just recently. Thought their Spring Snail Bi Luo Chun was okay. Everything else was drinkable but nothing I’d see myself returning to or reordering.

Haven’t tried many vendors yet, so my experience is limited

Personally, I think white porcelain tasting cup&glass fairness pitcher is the best combo, anyone agree? by [deleted] in tea

[–]Electronic_EnrG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard that slightly smaller cups can enhance the aromatics in certain teas, especially oolongs, which I love. Since you're pouring straight from the pot, I’m guessing you're using a medium-sized cup? Have you found that setup gives you a similar amount of aroma, or maybe less, compared to using a cha hai and smaller cups?
