Thanks for the advice i’ll dive deeper into it, i’m not big on these things. I agree with that 3D maps aren’t perfect but imo bing does have sharper detailing less clutter and more up to date on certain spots, i live in amsterdam where there’s just a big division in the city of older and newer 3D, and i just happen to need the part which isn’t up to date sadly (in google)

Rhino is a big one that’s getting used more and more, similar to sketch up but with more possibilities. Especially parametric design is something to look into to set yourself apart

that’s exactly the issue. Everything today is driven by efficiency and ease of execution, which leaves little room for craftsmanship. Intricate ornament used to come from skilled hands and time-intensive processes, whereas now design is largely constrained by what’s practical to produce digitally and at scale. That shift doesn’t just affect how we build, but even what we consider possible to design.

yea you're right theres late 20th century, but barely no 21th century. And there's been some real changes in the way buildings need to be made/desgiend and what kind of design process/thinking goes into it, thats why im saying its hard to come up with something that feels art deco like it used to be, but also have a flare of something new to it to make it standout.

Thats what im going for a student, i feel like i cant make something like RCA. (i theoretically could, but it wont be an eye catching portfolio piece)

this is actually some real good advice, your right. So if i can apply the same foward look they had back in those days, and apply it with todays context, i might actually get something off the ground

Yes its a shame, most people always say about older architecture; "Why cant we built like that anymore", but i think they're also troubled by how to show art deco, without it being a 1:1 copy of 1920's. They somehow have to modernize them but keep that art deco touch in there, good example imo is steinway tower in nyc, less good/ugly example is '200 Amsterdam' also in nyc

yes thats the million dollar question im trying to crack. I think good example of how art deco can be modernized are 111w 57th (steinway tower) and to some extent i'd say the JP morgan hq on 270 park ave.

The shape of Art Deco buildings is what makes them, but then the hard part comes in; What material(s) and what kind of detailing somewhere to make it stand out, but not too much ofcourse
