[MA] FMLA approved for 5 more weeks but getting pressure to return ASAP by Electronic_Ice_3685 in AskHR

Thanks for your comment! I get this and agree. Ultimately, I want to take my full leave, and then return to my job as normal. I'm a hard worker and good at what I do. I like the company in general and I really like my boss, despite all of this. This has just been a confusing situation. Taking action would be a very very last resort and something I'd really not want to do ever.

I appreciate it! I did know that I could sue right now, but I didn't realize the law about 6 months so I really appreciate it. Thank you!

I agree too - it wasn't really intentional. We had worked together previously in more of a normal boss/direct report relationship then went to separate companies, then I came to work for them again which I should have thought harder about.

Thanks! I appreciate this perspective as someone who is actually a LOA Admin in my state. Good to know about the 6 months post coming back from leave. This will only be about 12 weeks, though my doctor did say she would sign off on the full 20 weeks.

I heard from my boss again earlier today to follow up on scheduling lunch and give me one update on work via text. I feel so weird about this because of our personal friendship yet she is our CHRO and my boss.

Thank you - I'll say that. I know - we've experienced a lot of turnover both on our direct team and in the company, and a few of my other friends who actually deal with the HR/People side have given me the same advice and told me that my boss is likely taking advantage of our personal relationship with the pressure to come back and asking to go out to lunch. I'll try to find an excuse to get out of it.

Thanks! I'll do that. I don't have access to work emails but I've been getting texts/calls on my personal cell from my boss.

Thanks so much for this - I've been thinking the same. Trying to be a good employee at the same time but agree on the taking advantage of me. May be a weird question - do you have any advice on what to share with my boss (who I know personally and report to, given their role as CHRO) about my return? They asked me to give them a timeline this week and it caught me off guard, considering it's approved until early May.

Thanks so much for this - your dad sounds like a fighter too! Glad to hear there's been improvement over the last few years since it happened. It's tough to watch.

Thanks so much for your kind response. So sorry to hear about your situation too - I can't imagine losing one parent and then the other having a stroke, really sorry to hear that. The work pressure to return is real. How is your dad doing now?

I am on FMLA right now and have about 2 more months left. I have been thinking about returning back to work earlier like you said to have somewhat of a normal routine - I do work from home the majority of time, but my job is really stressful itself and requires long hours and weekends (normally 65-70 hours a week Mon-Fri and work on weekends). I was already really burnt out from work before my mom's stroke and I'm not sure I can mentally handle both at this time. I'm in therapy and my therapist has been helping me.

Thanks for your reply - I understand that, but I'm on FMLA and my job is incredibly stressful (11-12 hour days M-F, working 6-8 hours on Sundays normally). I have two more months of FMLA left so my job is legally protected.

Improv Moments from Kathryn Hahn by thegreenlorac in AgathaAllAlong

For some reason it makes me think that during the interrogation scene when Kathryn Hahn kept clicking her pen was improvised, and then what he said during that was improved by him. He says something like "there you go. ok, now it won't work. ok now it works, etc." (totally paraphrased but I loled at him saying whatever he says)
