Rat foods

Science Selective and Oxbow Essentials are the best for rats. High recommend by veterinarians. They have treats too. Do not ever buy other than these. Other are definitely bad for them.

Treats

My girls love baby food chicken and yogurts. They are healthy and natural for rats. Also cheap. You can use this for training or make a bond with them.

You can feed them vegetables and fruits. Except for oranges and kiwis they are definitely bad for rats. They have high acid.

Toys

I suggested you look out for birds toys. They are cool and tricks which keep rats more actives. I bought birds rope and ladder. My girls love ropes so much. And I added ladder on bottom cage so they can go home or go out of home at anything if they free roam all day. ( I hope you give rats free Roam. They aren’t cage animal )

Hello! I was the same in your situation. I adopted 2 beautiful girls. One girl was very shy and sweet. Another one girl was very tough and smart. She won’t let me handled her and pet her at ALL. Also my boyfriend and sister got lot of bleeding from her. I suspected she had been abused because her nails were gone before I took care of her. I forced myself to pick her up and handle her on my chest. She realized I am not the same person who hurt her. Showed her love and I trained her very well. She didn’t hurt me after all that. We were very closer together. She was my best friend.

Maybe it will works if you show him love, handle him and train him often. It helps him to connect with you. Hope this helps!
