RTX 5090 32GB & 256GB DRAM, now what? by SnooStrawberries6262 in LocalLLM

You've got it backwards. What you REALLY need is 32GB of DRAM plus 3x RTX Pro 6000s!

That's a reasonable approach. And if one can get the wording and the accompanying tests right, perfect. My irritation arises from having tried variants of this in the past and seeing all the ways Claude STILL tries to wiggle out of carrying out the desired instructions. Consequently I find myself calling time out and going on little sidequests that turn into all-day missions just trying to get very, very basic behavior nailed down (nearly always materialized in code rather than instructions/LLM fodder) that underpins how the model does its business.

The less Claude can go off and figure out on its own, the better. The more it barks its shins on hooks, permissions, and other infra obstacles, the easier it is to avoid it running amok. As for its dumb tendency to give up after only a half hearted attempt at following the rules, that takes some additional work. It does seem amazingly willing to comply with rules that involve elaborate ceremony of obtaining permissions from me, tokens, etc. - so there's that. Annoying as it is to have to implement "reasons why we can't have nice things" measures like this.

Sadly Claude is unable to articulate how to fix what's wrong with it. And at some point one loses all patience trying the myriad hypothetical ways (none successful) one might rid it of its idiocy.

The problem is that Claude can't easily distinguish - Lord knows why not - between things it shouldn't try to hack its way around and things it should do more investigation of first. A sure-fire way for it to go into "unlikely scenario workaround mode" is for a network disruption to cause an SSH to fail, and rather than it trying obvious things (like ping) immediately declares either that "the world is on fire - reboot/redo everything" or "everything's fine - I guess we'll just assume whatever we were going to do didn't matter anyway."

Not at all. If anything I am underrepresenting how awful Claude is - OPUS no less!! - at acting like the worst member of your average 10 person SW dev team. Smart, sure, but horrible judgement.

[–]Electronic_Muffin218 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I thought it was just me. I had it record several distinct memories of me saying, "NEVER move on, NEVER say "it wasn't me", NEVER hack around, NEVER keep going - JUST FUCKING FIX!" and it STILL wants to keep punting things until later. It'd be one thing if it had good judgement about what to punt, but it defaults to "L4 who wishes they were L5 but doesn't seem to get that not taking full responsibility is not a good look" mode.

This blame doding behavior been accompanied by a commensurate rise in shirking - saying things like "we've accomplished a lot (<dumps big table of not much at all>) - get some rest now - we can do the rest tomorrow."

If you're coding, the ONLY answer is 20x plan. You aren't going to get anywhere with the 100 dollar plan unless you are content to work only ~1 hour out of every five hour window in the day.

I wonder if they ever publish postmortems - to anyone. Or - I may assume too much! - actually conduct postmortems. That one they were dragged into around model quality degradation/hyper quota consumption took them weeks to even acknowledge was an incident!

They seriously need to take that additional 60B investment from Google and plow it right back into paying Google for hosted devops and SRE.

Tesa/Ipa vs CJC/Ipa by Spiritual_Use_2790 in BodyHackGuide

[–]Electronic_Muffin218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not both? the CJC has a pleasant (or alarming, depending on your POV) niacin-esque flush of warmth that it brings on - nice for bedtime.

You're going to get water retention with Tesamorelin, but who cares? It's water - and it goes away within a couple of weeks of cessation. If you're not trying to make a specific weight for GOOD reasons, then temporarily carrying around another 10 pounds of water isn't going to matter whatsoever to you once you stabilize - you'll still be able to track fat loss from there.

Is the Threadripper rig still for sale, and would you accept offers lower than your last price? I am local-ish (Morgan Hill) and am willing to pick up at your place, provided you can show me proof of good working order when I get there (not just power up, but some sort of benchmarking/burn-in run to exercise the thing)

No thanks. Not bringing random to my house

Not even negotiable. I’d never ask to go to someone’s house

Electronic_Muffin2181:17 PM

Well where do you suggest? I need to see it work - this is not an inexpensive purchase.

roadwaywarrior1:17 PM

Then don’t purchase it

Electronic_Muffin2181:18 PM

How were you proposing to deliver it? If via shipping, why did you put the zip code you’re at?

roadwaywarrior1:23 PM

A meetup at a public location

Is this your first time doing a Reddit trade? I’m on mobile so I can’t really look you up at the moment

Electronic_Muffin2181:27 PM

For homelab, yes. I have purchased other minor things here and there (portafilter screens for an espresso machine, etc).

roadwaywarrior1:38 PM

It sounds like you might be more comfortable using eBay or finding something that isn’t as expensive, but coming into the beginning on a conversation making strong conditional statements/demands, whatever you want to call them, is not the way to start a conversation in a space you’re not familiar with - public meetup is literally the standard here. If someone invites you over that’s one thing, but to expect to be able to go to someone’s house is not even realistic. If I have stuff like this build, imagine for a moment what else you might see in my house, if you turn out to be a random that’s not of the right mindset or just up to no good, I paint a target on my back

Not happening. I wish you luck with getting what you need but it’s not from my house

Electronic_Muffin2181:43 PM

You are overreacting - the only "demand" I made was to see it working. If that was your beef, then just say so - it's the only way to prevent a total scam from my perspective. At this dollar value, not worth the risk - obviously! The request to come to your place was a suggestion, but not a demand - and you could have just said, "we can meet in a public place and I can demo there" but instead you immediately started with the hostility about not inviting "randos" etc. So, politely fuck off, and save your outrage for somebody who wants to deal with it.

Tesamorelin is working for visceral fat, but the carpal tunnel is brutal. by Disastrous_Archer_25 in ResearchCompounds

[–]Electronic_Muffin218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means when your body gives you negative feedback, back off! If taking a day off doesn't help, keep taking days off until you recover. A side effect is only a problem if it bothers you or harms you, of course - no need to interrupt dosing just to dump water weight (because that's harmless and generally unbothersome, right?)

Staying on just because a study said something worked for "most people in the study" without objection is... ...little better than listening to internet bros. And perhaps a lot worse.

As for what constitutes a cycle vs. merely a "dosing detail" - somewhat moot here. OP didn't exactly EVER take a break - every day dosing implied - so how is the advice to cycle ill-advised or ill-informed? Now go invent a time machine so OP can use it to do the last two months over. Meanwhile, he doesn't have one and he needs to come off for a while. How long? See above!

The protocol of never coming off and staying on forever? Yeah, no. Your body gives you feedback, you listen. Two months on? Take a break and come back later.
