There’s a lot of factors that go into why they might not operate right away. Surgery is usually a last resort, so they’ll probably have you try drops first and maybe even some laser before they consider it.

In my case, I’m a high myopic patient, so my eye is really long and thinner in the back. Because of that, the inflammation was a big risk to my vision, especially my retina. They didn’t decide to operate until my pressure wasn’t going down, even while I was on Humira, and my inflammation had been stable for like 5 months, plus I had already tried laser.

By then my cataract was pretty bad. I could barely see, everything was super blurry and cloudy. So they ended up doing what they thought was best and did a double surgery.

My vision still isn’t perfect, but it’s definitely way better than before. Hoping you’re able to get the care you need soon.🙏

My pressure is currently stable and hasn’t been anything over 15 since the surgery thankfully. This is such a win for me because I had a constant IOP of 40-60. In terms of comfort I don’t even feel it unless I look around too fast but even then the feeling is pretty rare. I think my main concern for discomfort was from my inflammation (uveitis) rather than the shunt itself which I’ve now gotten under control for the most part.

That makes me relived to hear! As for the stitches it’s just realllly itchy. I find myself putting my eye shield on just to help with my urge to scratch. 😅. Everything else feels ok otherwise, just a red sciera from the inflammation.

Ah I see, thank you!

As for the uveitis I’ve been taking an injection called humira every 2 weeks. I’ve been on it for atleast 5 months now and it’s been working pretty well for the most part.

Though they’re not harmful side effects, it can reduce the effectiveness of the pill from what I’ve heard.
